Indiana always remains news worthy as a name brand. However, outside of the bobby knight years and I think a mike davis team that had a run, that program is basically the Dallas Cowboys. Always a talker in the media without any substance in 30 years
Not about him. Indiana has 2x the NIL budget. Going to be hard to continue to keep guys at that rate.Disagree he makes more than enough money at ISU. He loves this place and Indiana is not a step up at this point.
Brent is talking about NIL - money for roster building/retantion. He is not wrong. We need to raise enough to stay competitive and as long as we are able to do that I think TJ wouldn’t ever leave.Disagree he makes more than enough money at ISU. Exactly.Brent is talking about NIL - money for roster building/retantion. He is not wrong. We need to raise enough to stay competitive and as long as we are able to do that I think TJ wouldn’t ever leave.
The time to be worried is when his name STOPS coming up for other jobs.
It's unfortunate, but you are absolutely correct. While guys like TJ are incredibly rare in their deep love for the school they're at, they also have a lot of competitiveness and understand what it takes to win. If he thinks he can here, I believe we can retain him. But even though I hate to admit it, that should never be taken for granted.I certainly don’t think there is validity to Goodman here, but let’s not completely dismiss the idea that Iowa State does indeed have a low payroll and TJ wants to win and be able to retain all of the talent in the program right now. Just assuming he won’t leave is different than making sure he has all the resources possible so he doesn’t. As of now Indiana will have nearly double the NIL budget of Iowa State for basketball.
Yep, that’s the scary part. Not about him. Indiana has 2x the NIL budget. Going to be hard to continue to keep guys at that rate.
Indiana hasn’t been good for generations. I get they could back up the brinks truck for him and his assistants but I just don’t think the luster is there anymore for Indiana basketball.Indiana basketball = Nebraska Football. Only desperate coaches will try to resurrect that corpse.
Yep, that’s the scary part.
Miami football and basketball, Indiana basketball currently, North Carolina, Texas Tech next year. Why is that scary? It's still Indiana and this isn't the 70's anymore. It's like Nebraska football.
Look at all these supposed super teams build on NIL $, they aren't that good.
KU is a prime example
TT fb is going to be a prime example.
We have guys getting double the offer we can offer for next year already. It’s not about super teams, it’s about keeping this team together as it stands for now and beyond. Why is that scary? It's still Indiana and this isn't the 70's anymore. It's like Nebraska football.

I think it’s pretty obvious, based on Blum’s posts…Why is that scary? It's still Indiana and this isn't the 70's anymore. It's like Nebraska football.

Or, it is a reason to press for change in the decline of college athletics? Only reason I'm still around is because I've been a fan so long and I still have hope rational changes will be made. As a younger person, I wouldn't invest my time in it anymore. It's unfortunate, but you are absolutely correct. This will always be a problem for all of our programs and a direct example of why we need to provide them all the resources possible to feel like they can fulfill their goals here. While we have to get more creative than others at times for strictly salary, there is a whole lot more beyond that which also pulls coaches and players away.
I think NIL has shown in the past 3 years that coaches and players follow the resources. That's why the SEC has gone from a laughing excuse of a MBB league to arguably the best right now in such short order. That won't be the case for many coaches and players, but is a very clear trend generally speaking.
I’ve had some wild conversations with friends lately like… why we even care about college football anymore. The deck is so stacked against us. Like, let’s say someday we become G5 or worse in football like the SEC/B10 want us to be. Could we just go all-f***ing in with basketball NIL and be a mainstay elite program.Or, it is a reason to press for change in the decline of college athletics? Only reason I'm still around is because I've been a fan so long and I still have hope rational changes will be made. As a younger person, I wouldn't invest my time in it anymore.
Or, they’ll throw money at a big name with a big NIL budget that knows how to make a roster fit together and establish a good culture.Indiana has arguably the largest gap between reality and expectations in college hoops. They have been average at best for thirty years, but the fanbase still exists in the mindset that they are a top level program. That **** just doesn't work.
They'll end up with a mid major coach willing to take a chance on what is not a great position.
