I think COTY should be based on what you were expected to do versus what you end up doing.

I just think what CPR has done with a team that was in the proverbial ******* and making them bowl eligible is just a HUGE accomplishment!

Wasn't sure if this has been posted yet or not but thought I would show it anyways!
I think Mack Brown is not a horrible choice for COTY for the Big 12 but definitely think CPR deserves a good amount of credit!

Four finales and The Dashies cap regular season - ESPN

Yeah, a real horrible choice - the guy is 12-0 in 11 dominating performances, the guy's team is rated #3 in the country, will be #2 on Sunday and playing for the BCS championship in a little over a month assuming Texas takes care of business on Saturday, and is a national CoY candidate, but yet he's a horrible choice for Big 12 CoY? :skeptical:

Dude - take off your cardinal-colored glasses. What CPR and ISU did this season was great, but it in no way compares to what Mack Brown and Texas have accomplished this year.

You may want to re-read that...I read it the same way you did at first!

He probably should have said "I don't think Mack Brown is a horrible choice..."

First off, he said 'not a horrible'

secondly, you need to compare expectations to results. Id say at texas, with their talent alone, you'd probably put their over\under on wins at 10. 10 would be average coaching (considering the down big 12 especially). Anything less would be a disappointment, anything more would be favorable. With that, mack exceeded it by 2 games.

meanwhile, rhoads came into a program that has won an average of 2.5 games the past 2 seasons, and most media predicted we'd be somewhere near that this year. With that in mind, 6 wins exceeds that by 3 games, which is more than mack by number, and a huge amount by percentage.

You don't even have to go as far as to say a 10 win season is expected at Texas.

They started the year in the Top 5, was predicted by a lot of the analysts to win the Big XII and play for the National Championship and so far the ship has stayed on course.

Also thought the coach from Idaho deserves a large amount of credit. Aren't they bowl eligible this year?

Yeah, but those predictions take into account the belief of how good of a coach MB would be as well. Anytime you get through the big 12 south unscathed, youre not doing horrible by any means, talent or not.

So if Texas goes through the Big 12 title game and then wins a national championship, how will that affect the national COTY race?

If Texas would have lost one game this year, then CPR probably wins the award. It's awfully hard to not give it to a guy who's team is undefeated and in position for the national championship game.
