Ok, I'm not trying to start anything here, but Paul Clark in his article on Cyclonereport just rips on Jamaal Tinsley the whole time which kind of pisses me off. Take time to read it and it just seems out of place. I don't see how Tinsley has anything to do with Barry Stevens. He says Tinsley has been giving ISU and bad name this past month when he's been averaging almost a double double in the last 8 games.

I guess my problem is that if his sole purpose was to bring Tinsley, why does he need to compare everything he does to Barry Stevens? I don't know why it upset me, but it just does......

This article really makes me angry, how do you compare the 2? They were both great Cyclones, why does he have to relate the Tinsley thing to Barry Stevens death?

I'm probably in the minority, but I thought that he hit the nail on the head.

I didn't care for the article either. To basicly say Tinsley has no character because of a couple altercations is ridiculous. I don't really see how he is embarrassing Iowa State either. ISU can't be held accountable for what a guy does many years after leaving here. Barry Stevens was a fine man, but just because they live two completely different lifestyles doesn't make Jamaal some bad guy. I will always like and remember JT VERY fondly for his glory days as a Cyclone.

I don't like it when some of our former greats are often in the news becuase of wrong doing, whether it be shootings, drugs, fights, etc.

I think it makes the school look bad when one of your former greats kill his girlfriend's dog, too.

No need to compare the two off the basketball court, it is useless, I am not gonna judge the man Tinsley by a few actions, I don't think this makes Iowa State look bad, it would be different if he was on the team now. Paul Clark seems to just want to show his love for what kind of man Barry was but does it in a bad way by comparing him to Tinsley, he is putting down another man while putting another on a pedestal, two different situations. People make mistakes, some people can handle life better than others, yes Tinsley has made mistakes but I can guarantee Barry did too, but because he was such an outwardly christian man he is given the upper hand. Tinsley is a young man, if he is continuing to make these mistakes at 45, well yea!

Story City Iowa is a long way from NYC. Perhaps Paul Clark should try to put himself in the shoes of young JT....growing up in a place that is polar opposite of where he came from (or where he's from).

I think JT could be doing many worse things given his upbringing, and should be given some slack/support when he does fall a bit.

I agree that the article was uncalled for. Anyone heard of innocent until proven guilty? I agree that it looks like he's guilty but come on. The main point here is that when anyone outside of the state of Iowa hears about Tinsley getting in trouble they don't think badly about Iowa State. He's a grown man...you can't blame the college he went to for the bad choices he makes now. Get a life Paul!

Yeah, the first thing I thought was where did this this come from? Jamaal may have made a couple of poor decisions, but to totally trash his character for no real reason I think was uncalled for. I'm not embarrassed by JT, and I don't think he reflects poorly on ISU at all. I too will always be proud o JT as a Cyclone.

It was a horrendously poor attempt to make a point. As a way to speak to Barry's greatness, anyone else could go on an on about Barry without mentioning anyone else. As all Cyclone greats do, Barry doesn't need to be compared to anyone else and his excellence speaks or itself.

JT was one of eight kids raised on his dead stepfathers pension in what is probably the worst neighborhood in the entire U.S. One thing missing from his little story is Barry Stevens had the class not judge other people when he had no idea what they have been through. Congratulations on making it out of the mean streets of Story City, Paul, you are a shining example to humanity.

Heres a reprint of a great article on JT. He is lucky to even be alive growing up in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.

I will admit up front that I did not read this article and I really have no desire to.

I appreciate how Tinsley played for ISU and I think it is great to have Cyclones in the professional ranks making their mark...because it brings positive publicity to Iowa State. Having said that, the opposite is also true...when an ex-ISU athlete in the spotlight such as Tinsley does something bad it also brings negative publicity to Iowa State.

I hate to see this. It would appear that Tinsley has some sort of problem because these incidents seem to be recurring. I hope he can get his life straightened out.

Have you been making fun of Iowa for Dallas Clark getting kicked out of a girls basketball game, Pierre Pierce for not being allowed to leave the state and Babinoux and the pitbull? I'd say the majority of the people on this board think these things reflect poorly on Iowa. Tinsley getting arraigned for incidents at a bar does not reflect poorly on ISU?

The reason the article was written was because both events happened on the same day.

Me too. I loved Tinsley as a Cyclone, but between having his desire questioned repeatedly in the NBA and his multiple run-ins with the law... how else can you look at it?

The only real bad thing I see in this is using Barry Stevens to measure against Tinsley. Can we let the body cool a bit before we use him as a "puppet" in order to make another former ISU player look worse?

That part to me, was classless.

Tinsley is a thug. It sucks because he is probably my favorite player of all-time (poster still on my wall), but he just isn't a good guy.

Paul's article was "spot on"...

So what if Tinsley has been scoreing double/doubles all month...of the court he has been a disaster. The point Paul was making is the paradox between the Barry and JT. Barry was a star at ISU and never had the NBA success, but he was a great ambassodor of ISU off the court...where JT has had the NBA success but has been an embarassment to ISU off the court.

What I think is classless is how Jeremy and the moderators on this board always talk about not ripping on the other sites etc yet they let this thread stand and actually contribute to it to a thread doing exactly that.
