Are you telling me the drummer is a rookie!
WTH!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need leadership in the percussion section.
A pep band without a consistent beat is just
a bunch of kids playing with their instruments.

We got Drake Wednesday.
They won their last 2 trips to Hilton.
Let's get this thing fixed.

Yes, yes we are telling you that. Get over it. There is this thing that happens called graduation. With the way pep band is set up, there tends to be one drummer for about 3-4 years who does most of the playing. Pat left a few years ago, and the guy who was the returner left this year. Give the kid time to adjust.

I think it was a joke buddy.

The pep band had a rough go of it to start the season? Huh. Honestly, there were so few people actually at the games, they probably thought nobody would even notice.

But honestly, I don't know why we are wasting our time debating the drummer's sense of tempo when we could be talking about more important issues, like whether the pep band should be wearing black shoes or white shoes with the new color uniforms. I vote for white, because it makes the band look faster!

The pep band has been decimated by transfers the past few years. There has been all sorts of internal strife. Members weren't getting along with the old conductor. The old conductor is gone now. They've brought in a new pep band conductor who was a stud himself when he was in the band in the early '90s. He had a great recruiting year but 5 of the new pep band members have to sit out due to NCAA transfer rules. However, next year -- look out. I think the pep band will be the best in the Big XII in 2011-2012.

I understand all the "people complain about everything" comments. I think the same thing most the time. Granted this is a small thing and maybe i shouldn't have asked? Maybe it's because i play drums and that's why i noticed.

Sorry, i didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.

I am impressed. I never even imagined calling out an individual pep band member.

Just for credits, do we need one for each member of Cyclone Alley? We don't need to use names. We can use seat #s or something.

With the # on Sunday, it shouldn't take too many threads

What about the black slacks? That should be fair game.

The sad thing is that this drummer is a walk-on. He's been busting his *** the last 4 years. Through hard work and dedication he finally gets put on scholarship this year. The conductor called on him when the entire game was in the balance. He then got out there in front of 146 of his fellow students and 3750 people over all and craps his pants. It turns out he plays the drums like a 7-year old girl. Gutsy call on the conductor's part. If the song would have been executed it would have been a totally different outcome.

In case you haven't opened your eyes on this site recently...the reason that people are getting on you for harping on a single student in a public forumn is because all everyone does on here is complain about someone. If it isn't the students its the donors or the start time to a basketball or football game.

People are complaining a lot lately.

I've heard that we have an inside track with Joe Smith, Des Moines North '13. Rumored to have some of the fastest hands in his class. His current band is stacked, so he has been relegated to playing timpani so far. However, he really turned some heads this past summer at band camp. By the time he graduates, he is projected as a combo drummer/timpani player, which should fit in nicely with the system that ISU's pep band director is trying to install.

Man I'm glad I graduated this spring if that is going to happen. Because I wouldn't want to see the thread about 'the horrible baritone player' that would inevitably happen if I were still in the band. It would probably be either one post saying, 'yeah he's terrible' or it would reach 'planes on treadmills' proportions. I'd probably have to hold a press conference or two to get rid of all my negative press if that were the case.

I do know of a solution to threads about the entire band though. Blame the trumpets. Everything is their fault. Except when it is the trombone players' fault.

Seneca Wallace.

Combo drum/timpani? Is the director crazy? That is like asking one man to play both defense and offense. There is a reason the number of schollys is set so high, I just wish they would recruit to fill them, instead of trying to get an all purpose drummer and then wasting the rest on trumpets.
