Perfect coaches for the school they are at...

I'd like to get your take on coaches you think are at a school that is best for both parties.
I, for one, am thinking CPR is on that level. He wants to be here, the kids seem to like him, and the fans are 100% behind him to this point in his career (never coached a game, but still love the guy). GREAT HIRE!!

Another is Randy Shannon at Miami(FL). That guy is totally no-nonsene. He is a proven winner with I believe 4 NC rings as a player, grad ***., and DC, all at Miami. His roots are in the south Florida area and the kids in the Broward/Dade county area know and respect him.
I feel this is exactly what Miami needs to turn things around and become a NC contender in a conference full of "pretty good" teams. His article in SportsIll telling his life story was amazing. That guy has been through so much, and risen above it. He is what UofM need to finally break the ThugU image that has haunted them for years. He will do great things there!!!

Another is Pete Carroll. Just look at his resume. He just looks the part of a USC/UCLA coach. I'd be shocked if he weren't bodyboarding as we speak. I have a ton of respect for him, partially because of the spankings he gives to the Big2Little9 every year in the Rose Bowl. That guy should never leave USC. They would win the NC every year if only they didn't play in a conference full of other powerhouses like Oregon State and Stanford.!!!

Your thoughts?

Sweatervest is perfect for OSU. Ferentz is perfect for Iowa. Neuweasel is perfect for UCLA. Miles is perfect for LSU.

There is a TON of love between Miles and LSU.

I think you give USC way too much credit as well as the PAC 10 as far as strength goes unless you were being sarcastic of course.

Paterno at Penn State considering he's been there forever and makes less than $1 mil a year. Tressel at Ohio State.

I agree with pretty much all these but I would like to see more examples of coaches that are newer and are at schools where they fit. The already successful ones are easy to pick out. I dont really have any examples yet besides CPR.

Mark Farley, the walk-on from Waukon at UNI
I believe in the 25 yr history of the Gateway (now mo valley) conference UNI has won it 14 times and Farley was a part of all 14 as a player, assitant coach, or head coach. I think most are aware of his coaching success but look at what he did as a player

Three-year starter at inside linebacker
Led the team in tackles 1984-86
1985 Gateway Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year
Co-captain of 1985 1-AA national semi-final team
Three-time first team all-conference
Two-time honorable mention all-American

Player Bio: Mark Farley - NORTHERN IOWA OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

I don't think success automatically equate to perfect fit. I wouldn't have put Carr on that list when he was HC at Michigan.

And frankly, I don't agree with Mack Brown or Urban Meyer.

So would you put Rodriguez than at Michigan or is it too early to tell? I just think it is more fun to try and pick out good fits when they are early in their career with that school and have had limited success, if any success at all.

I'd say successful or not RR isn't a perfect fit for Michigan.

I don't disagree with you, but it's interesting you mentioned this b/c I just saw a segment on CFB Live where they were saying he might be on the hot seat if he doesn't get it done this year b/c he's not getting much of an endorsement from his AD....and Miami opens up with a brutal schedule against Florida St., Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma.......good luck to Shannon though b/c he'll need it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! nicely done.

1st ones to come to mind for me....
Gundy at OSU
Fitzgerald at Northwestern

Gundy set passing records at OSU while handing off to Barry Sanders when that school hadn't sniffed success in ages. Fitzgerald IIRC was a pretty solid piece on some good NW teams.

Teams not usually associated with success but excelling at the moment come to mind for me. Especially these guys who have "come back home".

So many different ways to go with this, but I'll stick to the "personality of the coach" meets the personality of the football program / fan base. Given my definition, I'd submit that Bo Pelini is a pretty good fit for the Cornhuskers. Bo's not pretty to look at, defensive-minded and sprays spit when he talks. Nebraska football has rarely been aethetically pleasing, starts with the blackshirt D and their fans are rabid.

New Jersey native Greg Schiano is a pretty darn good fit at Rutgers as well. The guy looks like a square-jawed hitman...
