Playoff hypothetical

I know this scenario is not likely, but it is plausible. Suppose ISU beats Utah on Nov 23rd to
clinch a spot in the Big 12 championship game. Meanwhile K-State is behind us and needs a win to get into the championship game. If we lose to K-State on Nov 30, we play them again in championship game the next week. The way I understand the playoff ( please correct me if I am wrong ) we do not need a win the first game to impress the committee, just need to win championship game to get Big 12 bid to playoff spot. If this is true would we accept a loss by significantly reducing staters minutes and playing plain vanilla offense and defensive schemes to improve our chances in championship game. I have never played competitive sports before so I am not sure how not doing our best to win the game (especially a rivalry game ) would affect the team.
I know I am thinking way too far ahead, but this scenario ( which did not exist until this new playoff format ) interests me and am wondering what everyone else thinks.

No way in hell will Campbell "Throw a game". You play to win, Beat the hell out them twice and leave no doubt. Biggest Issue I see I don't think the committee allows 2 big12 teams in no matter what - with the BIG and SEC Bias? hope im wrong.

Would we not play a competitive game? At home and on senior day? GTFO

If we were to run the table in the regular season and go 12-0, we would likely be a top 5 team heading into conference championship weekend.

With a strong performance in the Big 12 title game, and close loss, I think a 12-1 Iowa State team is going to the playoff.

I dont see any possible scenario where Iowa State is "resting" players in week 12 against KState.

A 12-1 Big 12 team is in the playoffs no matter what. Not a chance they get left out.

I'm hoping K State stubs their toe soon. I don't want to play them back to back. If that's the case, clearly would hate to lose on senior day, but if we could only win 1 take the championship.

BUT. Would also be amazing to beat them twice in a row...then in Ireland.

Their schedule is pretty weak. Next at WVU so that should give us an idea how good they are against a common opponent.

I would bet a good chunk of money that if ISU is 12-0 going into the Big 12 championship, it’s in no matter what happens. But I don’t think it’s likely they get in with 2 losses.

So in the OPs scenario, that K-State game would be critically important to win.

My hypothetical playoff question (and I fully understand it is middle of October w tons of games to play), if Iowa State was to run the table and go 13-0, are they a top 4 seed receiving a bye?

Also, would you prefer a bye or to host a first round game in Ames?

I hope you are correct, but unless we win the championship game, we will get screwed here. Miami and Clemson look like they are going to get in over both ISU and KSU/BYU if both win out and face each other in the championship.

Yes and getting a bye should always be preferred

I really don’t want to sound like **** here but the same questions are being asked very single day.

The time that is spent writing out a post on how the playoff works takes longer than simply googling how the playoff works. Same with “what time and channel do we play on”. You’re already on the internet people just look it up.

End rant.
