There was nothing that could have been done that wouldn't have been a stupid waste of money. And there was no reason to be pissed at Cael for leaving. This isn't like a guy making more money than he can spend to make even more money he can't spend. That type of raise for Cael and the money PSU was willing to throw at the program was absolutely life changing for Cael and not something ISU could, or should have tried to compete with.im hardly a JP fan boy, but where would have Iowa State got the money to even remotely somewhat compare to the investment penn state was making at the time?
It sucks for fans of the sport, but wrestling is not an investment. It's not going to be an income generator for the AD. Those were super lean times for ISU athletics, the football arms race was at 11 at the time, and it was pretty clear to most that a basketball hire was going to have to happen.
