It would be interesting to hear the full context of what was said. I’d be surprised if he just made an off the cuff remark like that.

Thanks for proving mine.
Your clearly not a wrestling fan, so there’s that

I'm enough of a fan to know that a lot of guys show up to early-season opens with the intent of wrestling a set number of matches, regardless of result -- which has nothing to do with lack of toughness.

I

I can come to the Wrestling board and expect common sense, some of which I’ve seen. Clearly not the real wrestling fans I’m at odds with
You are certainly right, and I am not saying you shouldn't or don't have that right.
I am just saying some posters here just combat everything, so it usually isn't as meaningful of discourse as you may have been hoping for with respect to your OP, and I see in previous posts that's apparent to you. Comment about JP was because that is far more of an impactful action to take if you truly feel he is hurting our wrestling program, rather than posting here.

Was more just posting to say don't hate on cyclones fans as a whole or start bashing on them because of a few posts here that disagree with your take.

That’s how the world works. You pay for something, you get to voice your opinion. I think I have you beat in that department.

We're gatekeeping fans and their opinions now? Yikes.

These type of comments are what helps to keep shrinking our wrestling fan base.

You're not voicing your opinion to Pollard though. I don't care how much money you donate. Voice your opinion to him.

I think if you asked him, he'd say it was a mistake to say. Obviously he was firing off the handle and really feeling himself during the coach's show.

I don't know what you expect here. This is Pollard. I disagree with this part of his personality and how he conducts himself publicly, but like anybody you get the good and the bad. I choose to deal with the bad because I think the good massively outweighs it.

He has never cared as much about wrestling or he wouldn't have allowed KJ to continue to coach to the point the program was functionally buried. That's also part of him I'm not really down for either.

Wow, you started off all right then snapped. That is the funniest thing I have ever read. I’ve drawn all the Jamie huggers out of the woodwork.
You apparently are still grinding an axe from the early 70s. I’m 50, one of the older people on this board and even I was t around then. Need to let that one go.

You are mad he didn’t go Sunday?? He was dealing with colleges trying to take our head football coach away. The sport that pays for all the other sports here (except mens BB) including your beloved wrestling. Campbell leaves you can probably wave goodbye to ever sniffing the top ten again in wrestling since he generates more money than anyone for wrestling. Jamie needed to handled that crisis most.

When you’ve given what I have in time and money to the University, then get blasted with nonsense, you tend to get salty.
Evidently, some people are easily led. Unfortunate that they don’t listen to reason or common sense. Started out pretty innocuous, but I’m not going to lay down because some cross country folks got their feathers ruffled for me criticizing their boy.

You're giving me neither reason nor common sense. I agree it was a foolish and bad thing to say. What now? Sounds like you are just blowing off steam at this point. And again, nobody cares how much you donate.

Then voice this opinion to JP directly, my man. I am sure he will appreciate you standing up for the program and if you feel so passionately about it then it is probably a feeling throughout much of the wrestling fanbase.

I agree to disagree. No axe to grind from the 70s. Just stating facts that others don’t see.
You say my “beloved wrestling”. I thought we were on the wrestling board. If you don’t like wrestling and support it, why hang out on the board and comment if it means nothing to you. Oh, probably because you work with JP, or love CC or track
You bet I’m some CC lover who is Jamie’s subordinate. :jimlad:

I’ve spent more time promoting wrestling than probably any sport out there. Although I’m football first. Anywhere from the local to district to state to national level I’ve spent my own time and money to promote wrestling. From 3 year oldsthrough college wrestling. From administration stuff to help coach to radio broadcasts for many years. I’m sure you have done the same things as me And get tired of people who don’t do the work and just yapp about donating money.

So yeah, I hate wrestling and want to push CC. (I do want to push cross country, because I want to push all Iowa State sports)

Water under the bridge about that. He’s going to do whatever he wants.
Hope your boy enjoys the meet.

Well again then, what's the point of this other than blowing off steam?

Pollard is the best AD in America, but there are times he just needs to shut up. He has moved ISU into a position of power in the conference and you would think we were still fighting for pennies.

Just because no one else is melting down about this doesn't make them the JP mob or whatever you're trying to make it. I would never want to spend any amount of time with JP but I'm glad he's our AD.

I was extremely disappointed in Jamie saying that the 4 1/2 hours watching the Cyclones wrestle was time he can't get back. Basically saying he isn't interested. I think it is a slap in the face to our wrestling student athletes and coaches.

It just doesn't look good to have your Athlete leader make a comment like that.

I do realize that there may be more important topics on his mind this past weekend. I applaud him for being there. I saw him there.

I think John Walter was trying to cover up his comment with talk about all the activities that Jamie was watching and supporting this past weekend.

I had to read it a few times too. Man you're salty on here. Chill out.

I have always found wrestlers/wrestling fans to be SUPER intense about a sport most people don't care at all about. It's a pretty digital situation, either 1 or 0.

Well said in JP’s position you just can’t go there. He’s done tremendous things for our university and he gets recognized for his accomplishments. He’s also made mistakes and those are going to be pointed out too. He has to have thick skin as an AD. This is a forum that has JP supporters and JP critics. Does wrestling make the university a ton of money? We all know the answer but wrestling once had a rich tradition and through the years has been extremely successful, maybe the most successful program in our athletic department. That’s what is really sad about his comments.
