I’m giving mine up for the year. Not because of the virus though. I’ll be working out of state and will miss half of the games. Figured it would be better to let someone else have a chance to go. This will be the first time in about 20 years I won’t have season tickets.

"Risky" is the operative word here. Theoretically, being outdoors along with social distancing and masks should be relatively okay, and keep these games from being weekly super-spreader events, but that's assuming people comply (extremely doubtful) and rules are enforced (also doubtful). Either way, it's definitely creating risk.
But, what continues to be ignored is that this is a 'fluid' risk and that there's more 'value' in it. If things stray the wrong way, alternate plans are in place. One could say that's exactly what happened at bars. People didn't comply. The bar, itself, was unable to enforce. So, to your room without dinner. IMO, that's the best way to address this fluid pandemic. The biggest difference is that, arguably, the most passionate fans will be attending (ie 'value'). And, thus, they have more to lose than talking up some girl at a bar.

It’s about where people place value. They don’t place value, for whatever the array of reasons, on masks in social situations in which there is no reward to them for doing so. There is a big reward for wearing, or value, them so they will slap them on.

What would be really interesting is to get data on the number mask wearing fans leaving the stadium after a win vs after a loss. If people inherently don’t value them, then after a loss I would guess many will say f*ck this and take it off to walk to their car.
That's a very interesting take. And one I had not considered. Let's hope the 'family' atmosphere Ames sells to people holds true.

I'm aware of the increased risk of indoor vs outdoor. 25,000 people vs 50 people is a ridiculous comparison. You're going to have far more transmission with 25,000 people.

Story county had low transmission throughout the summer then a huge spike when students returned. Now businesses are being forced to close and schools are going to 100% remote learning. Now 25,000 more people are going to show up and interact?

Your points are valid and there's a lot of unanswered questuons about this whole thing, but how many people does someone interact with at a game? Maybe the fans in the same area?

I didn't think it would be hard to keep general space leaving either. There's a lot of avenues to leak out of the stadium.

Do you expect 25,000 to only show up, park, go to the game and leave?

Hope Jamie and Co are ready for the media onslaught. Yahoo already picked this up and it's gaining on Twitter. I personally am not sure having fans there is a good idea, but I'm not in Ames, and I am not privy to daily COVID data, etc. Seems risky to me.

This isn't media onslaught. It's not even moving the needle nationally

Wonder if the "mask patrol" are going to see someone without a mask and escort them out or even what the tolerances will be? Think it will be a tad bit more difficult to smuggle your beverages in. Also wonder how JTS will sound with 25,000 fans yelling with masks on?

FYI- Ames School Board voted last night to go 100% on line the first two weeks of school. So no sports for at least two weeks. The football team will play this Friday night but after that who knows what will happen.

Is that what I said?

I don't expect 25,000 to just get together and hang out with every person in a big blob of people the whole time.

If it were 5,000 in Hilton or something I'd be way more leery.

yeah, most of us will go to the game, watch the game, probably hit the restroom at sometime, some will get something to drink, some will complain that there is no food, most will cheer at some point, somebody will kick a field goal for chicken nuggets, probably a few other things, and then people will leave.

I do expect that there will be some self policing due to JP basically saying if we don't then the games will be fanless.

It will get tricky for a bit. If they are selling drinks, there will be people taking their masks on and off to take a drink. While they shouldn't have their mask off for five minutes to take a drink, it will probably have scattered people removing and replacing their masks often enough to keep people on their toes.

After the beat down the Dirty Dodge put on them, maybe they don't want to play FB this yr.;) Lots of offense in that game.

Glad to hear they play still this week. Was kinda pissed about that. Urbandale was already probably losing 2/7 games due to Des Moines going online. I’m totally for taking reasonable precautions and we do have issues lately but I think certain schools have taken a pretty political stance because the governor has taken her political stance.

This whole issue is way to political for me. I think that Iowa State is taking a more aggressive approach than I thought they would but I feel confident in Iowa State making an informed scientific decision. As Pollard said ultimately there are people who think we should be totally normal. There are also people who think we should not leave our house. We all have to be respectful of each other and take certain precautions. If you think they are to much stay home and if you think they aren’t enough stay home. People seem to have forgotten how to be respectful.

Probably sound grateful they get to watch a football game and maybe not ***** about anything else?

It's their personal responsibility, after all.

That's my plan. Was talking with 1 of the people I have season tickets with and he was saying the bathroom is the main spot of concern. But after talking it out we figure we have less than half the people we normally do and won't be out tailgating and drinking for 6 hours prior plus only pop and water for concessions they should get much less usage. Plus you can always get up in the middle of a quarter to use them when hardly anyone else is to avoid the halftime rush. The challenge will be what to bring in to eat especially for an 11am game. For a 2:30 or evening kick off at least you can get a decent meal in before hand but if you are showing up around 9am or so to head to your seats it's going to be mid afternoon before the game is over so going to need a good breakfast beforehand and some decent snack food or something to bring in to hold you over for lunch.

I have a feeling there will be plenty of self policing going on because we want this to work and set the example of how you can have fans safely at a game.

Yeah big breakfast and snacks and people will be just fine.
