maybe because that’s what the other team thinks you’ll be doing????It worked out obviously, but when you are that close to the goal line with that score and that much time left, I don't know why you do anything other than line up and muscle it over the middle into the endzone. We had plenty of timeouts if we needed to stop the clock for any reason.
Ebel and Lovett were the only lbs yesterday that didn’t look lost or physically overmatched. I’d put McLaughlin in the positive camp.I agree with this and makes me wonder why we didn't see more of him throughout the year. Was he dinged up or in the doghouse? Because most of our other LB's are objectively bad. I also noticed Goodwin playing more than he has for some time and was wondering if we were missing some LB's in addition to the ones who have been done for the whole season? Anyway, we need a portal guy or huge improvement from the LB's.
I thought James impressed for the last few games and Neal was pretty good yesterday, so hopefully the secondary has some replacements already in line.
It’s not what. It’s how that pov was sharedI guess you all can call me dumb along with @andybernard because I too (along with just about everyone I know) were screaming for more run plays at the end of the game, due to the clock situation. Especially from the 4 yd line...
I voted it as an area I disagreed with how Mouse called it. That said, unless you’re new to CF you should also see the irony of the post mortem crowd saying, “clearly we should’ve run it up the middle” given that is one of the most bemoaned things of ISU football. It worked out obviously, but when you are that close to the goal line with that score and that much time left, I don't know why you do anything other than line up and muscle it over the middle into the endzone. There is a weird vibe on this forum that whenever we win, you are not allowed to criticize any of the decision-making in the game without getting Dumb'd or "you should email the coaching staff har har".

“just line up and run it up the middle?! Are these coaches even trying to win?!?”
Again, a run burns clock and I thought we could’ve gone to it sooner. Thankful for the holding call.
Still tough, there’s no winning with some people. Even when we win.
Don't forget about their stuck-in-the-mud basketball program that draws 5k apathetic fans per game. The hok Trolls are in full panic mode right now. Between our 11 win season, a stud QB coming back next year, our men's basketball program, and their ancient FB coach and national laughing stock of an offense, tough time to be a hok.
Lovett (if he sticks around) will be a big time contributor next year. I'm kinda hoping he is good enough to start at middle linebacker and move Bacon to edge rusher. One thing I noticed after watching it again, Zac Lovett was everywhere, I wonder if he might be a guy that could take a big step and fill some of those holes at linebacker. Thought he was excellent when he was in there. Physically he can be that run stopping linebacker we were missing for sure.
4 of the top 8Seriously look at the top 20 rushers and there will be 2-3 where you don’t even remember we played them too. I think 7 of top 20 and 3 of top 7.
Against our injury ravaged D. Headcock did a great job all things considered. Somehow some people ignore all context when complaining about our rush D and scheme.4 of the top 8
If Higgins plays, we score on 2 more possessions.I think everyone understands that if Cam Plays, they probably win. The cool thing about that? nobody is going to care about that in the history books.
We are damaged goods on tackling and stopping the run, so I hope we can get that figured out next year.
Great win and season.
I knew we played good RBs but didn't know exactly how good until last night when I looked at the stats. I posted it in another thread, I think Harvey is 4th nationally in rush yards, Skattebo is 5th, Kaleb Johnson 6th, Tahj Brooks 8th, and there were 2 or 3 other guys in the top 18 that we faced. There were other good ones that were not top 20, like Martinez yesterday.Against our injury ravaged D. Headcock did a great job all things considered.
