I use to work at a hardware store and we rented them out. I used it every spring at my parents as it took care of most of the rocks and much easier then raking.
Any rental center worth its salt will have one you can rent for a couple hours for $20. I don't know why anybody would actually own one personally and I'm a guy with more power tools than most.
Not worth the money. We bought a couple at the golf course and they are now collecting moth balls. They are also heavy as hell.
Because I have a long gravel driveway that gets the rock pushed off into the grass all the time. If I were to own it then I can use it anytime I want. If I rent it then I have to schedule it out. It's a convenience thing. Plus it's only $300 so it's no really that much to buy it.

Did you build/dig your own pond? Looking for someone to consult on one my late father had built but doesn't fill.

They make a thing you can just roll over lighter objects that picks them up. Not gas powered. Kind of like a slinky on a handle. Actually they’re designed for people who want to harvest the nuts, but it would serve your purpose. Check out any gardening catalog if interested.
