I don't think Texas changes much in the SEC. They'll still find a way to win 7-8 games per year, but the fan base will be satisfied because wins are coming against SEC teams and they don't have to risk losing to Kansas and Iowa State anymore, not to mention all the "lesser" Texas schools.

They'll win 10ish games occasionally which is historically where they've been with exception to late 60s/early 70s and the 2000s.

Their brand has been pretty amazing considering how many marginal results they've had.

A&M and Missouri havent had a drop off, so I don’t think Texas will. Even in this past decade they can play eventual national champ LSU to the wire, beat UGA, but also lose to KU. One would suspect they’ll continue with the inconsistencies that comes with being fair-weather players in a soft program. Maybe they’ll actually be better since UT won’t look down so much on their conference.

OU has a lot more to lose. What is OU without elite winning, conference championships and annually having a great chance at CFP? Due to location I don’t think they’ll fall like Nebraska if they have good coaching, but they’ll be the P2 version of Ok St

I know this is primarily about OU but why are we just skipping past this bonkers assumption that Texas is automatically going to be better in the SEC than they were in the Big 12.
Nobody said they'd be better. I said they'd be "OK" and upper half to third. That's top 8 to 5ish. Where do you think they'll be?

I don’t really see the parallels between NE to the Big 10 and OU to the SEC, mostly because OU will continue to play in their historical recruiting footprint. Nebraska gave that up with their move to the Big 10, then followed it up with coaching hires that didn’t pan out. I think OU will continue to be very good and 9-11 years will be the norm. They’ll be in the top 4 more often than not, but probably not win many conference titles.

I think Texas will continue to be mediocre and win 7-9 games most years. The middle and bottom of the SEC isn’t all that tough. They’re set up to have Iowa-like fake ID years when having an up year coincides with a year where they dodge all or most of the top teams.

I feel like Mizzou's last 3/4 years in the B12 and first 3/4 years in the SEC were really solid but they really haven't done much other than that in most of our lifetimes.
I think OU got as good of a replacement for Riley as possible will still keep them very relevant.

I don't see OU falling to the degree that NU has if OU has good coaches

Nebraska was setup to fall regardless, and already was falling from their peak. Then they made some poor hires which will derail any program. Their recruiting rankings didn't greatly change in the BIG, and it was always going to slip as the glory years continued to grow irrelevant to today's recruits

And OU is a little similar in that it is a brand built on their history and success in a different era. Not as bad as NU due to location, but what is OU with 1 or 2 more losses a year and way less conference titles? They just have nothing to gain on the field in the move, and a lot of slide potential.

We'll see how well OU does when they don't have a huge advantage over most of their conference peers. Tennessee is not too dissimilar imo.

I tend to think NIL couldn't have been better for Nebraska. Say what we will about their results but their fans will probably still pony up money for players. I wouldn't have faith on Frost being able to capitalize on it though.

Doesn't this really all depend on how Venables coaches this team? If it were still Lincoln Riley, there would be some continuity with the team as they head into the SEC. Venables may be just fine but let's see how he does in the Big 12 first.

OU's problem the last decade, IMO, has been defense. I think even with a middle of the pack one they would have contended for Nattys.
I think Venables can probably get that tweaked as well as anyone. SEC has really upped their offenses, so just a little D goes a long way (TWSS).

Agree. I actually think he is a lot like Lincoln Riley. Always looking for the next best thing. If if you are at a powerhouse
Lane probably knows he should stay put for a while, and they are compensating him well, so why not ride out another 5 years at Ole Miss before Kelly retires/gets canned at LSU and the same with Florida.

OU is going to find the recruiting in Texas is going to be a lot tougher. Not only did the SEC add a Texas team, but the Big 12 added another Texas team to replace one it lost.

Yes, I think rich brands living off history and passionate fans in the middle of nowhere benefit a lot from NIL. Could mitigate the slide.

Yep, middle of nowhere and teams that have underperformed for a while now like Miami. They are ponying up a lot of money and landing a lot of kids.

Watch Riley take over for McVeigh in a few years.
