I tried to find what was basically the consensus over/onder for wins during the Rhoads era. If I’m off let me know on any of these, my employer blocks gambling websites so it was actually pretty difficult.

2015: 3, TBD
2014: 4, Finished 2-10
2013: 5.5, Finished 6-7
2012: 4.5 fished 6-7
2011: 4.5 finished 6-7
2010: 5.5 finished 5-7
2009: ?? finished 7-6

I actually couldn't find 2009. However I did see the Big 12 media preseason, literally every writer picked us last but one. However, we can assume it was in the 2-4 win range for an o/u.

I wanted to see generally how far they were off. for the most part it's pretty close, within 2 games with the lone exception being Rhoads' first year. Sort of bad news for this year as that would put our ceiling at 5 wins but there is precident for a larger increase than that based on 2009.

Double-check 2013 -- finished 3-9, not 6-7 -- and I think O/U was 4.5 but that's purely from vague memory.

If anyone wants to have any hope for this season, I wouldn't spend a lot of time looking for data or opinion to support it. You just have to hold on to the hope we buck every trend, because none of them are in our favor. Well, I guess there is Phil Steele.

Isn't that what hope is? Optimism and passion? Why even pay attention to sports and follow favorite teams if you don't have optimism & passion? I would have killed myself years ago, as a Cyclones/Raiders/Sacramento Kings fan.

This is the greatest time of the year for me, because anything can happen. Optimism plus passion and a dash of realism. There's no point in being a pessimist about it. I don't understand people who complain about how bad we are through the offseason. If it's really that hopeless, shouldn't you just ignore it until September 5th? Or maybe you're so negative that you won't be able to enjoy anything until CPR is gone, or whatever it is that you think will magically lift us to CFP levels of greatness. Why even pay attention during the offseason? Does that not make you absolutely miserable? Take a break from the pessimism - it will eat your life away year after year and make you a miserable person.

If you can't have hope, if you can't look at this year's schedule and say there are 8 or 9 games that we COULD win (not saying we WILL, there's my dose of realism), just step away and come back when you can enjoy it. Hope and optimism are what the offseason is for.

(Not directed at NorthCyd or any single person in particular, just my offseason philosophy)

I was shocked to see how high Lindy's had us for some position groups. I don't have it in front of me but iirc they had our receivers at #4 and DBs at #5. I think the only position group at #10 was DL...

I just don't see six wins on the schedule. If there were it would almost have to be the first five to begin and then one more. That would be such a strange season to win the first five and only win one more or no more.

Yeah, two whole years below your lofty expectations. That's like a lifetime, right.

What are you talking about? My expectations are 8/9 wins. ISU has had like, what...three seasons of 8 or more wins in my lifetime? With two of them coming during a time when I was too young and I cared more about Star Wars. One good season a decade. I guess I was getting greedy. Four wins would be great! Can we get Rhoads an extension if we get four wins?
