1)Keep Foster, Nunn, and Hunter
2) Keep the core of Bolton, Harris, George, Walker, Dubar, Hinson, and the previous mentioned Foster in Ames.
3) Make the trip South to Ottumwa to offer SG- Tyem Freeman, PF- Chris Payton, and PG- Curtis Jones and do everything possible to get them all in an Iowa State uniform.
4) Preach rebounding and defense.
5) Get Bolton off the ball.

1) Play defense, bench those that don't.
2) Run a real offense, not 4 guys watching one guy dribble and shoot a 3.
3) Bring in freshmen and develop talent.

Like what Campbell says:

Recruit, Retain, and Develop.

Recruit: You don't need the best classes in the conference but you shouldn't be at the bottom. You need good players to compete in this conference.

Retain: In this day and age you need to have a strong culture to prevent transferring out. I'm ok if players leave to the NBA, but programs are built on the back of 4 year players. Plus I would hope only players declare if they are lottery picks. Players like THT could've benefited from another year in the program.

Develop: I'm not afraid of projects. In fact those players can be monsters their junior/senior year if managed correctly. I didn't feel like players developed under Prohm outside of a few guys. Too many players almost took a step back. I want a coach that makes every player improve each season. This is where those 4 year players come in.

Agreed on dumping the 1-4 offense.

I realize that 3 point shooting is critical, but that doesn't mean we need to play 4 guards.

IMO there are 4 critical players the new coach needs to keep at ISU:
PG- Hunter
CG- Bolton
SF- Hinton
P- Foster

Add an athletic, physical post this spring and we could have a solid rebounding team. We might just have a team that can play above the rim!!

I still think Harris, Johnson and Conditt have Big12 level talent and a new coach could make them solid bench players.

Way up there
It's pretty easy to make me happy these days. I'd be okay with a coach who can answer the question, "What do you do if the high ball screen doesn't work?. If its anything other than, "Keep running it no matter what" or "stand there and cringe", they pass my test.

What the hell happened to Javan Johnson? At Troy he shot 44% and 35% from 3. This year he shot 27%. I had high hopes for him.
The dude's a good player but man he's thin. I imagine the better and more physical players in the B12 played into that.

Granted I watched a lot less basketball this year after the Iowa game but the little I watched I was impressed by Walker as a freshman. I think we need more size with guys like Blake Hinson who's listed at 6'7" and 235. We couldn't compete from a physical standpoint, IMO.

This article has always stuck out in my mind. Specifically when Prohm says, "Switches could be good. Staggers could be good." And then the description of practice should've set off a series of alarms. He's not a bright basketball mind, he doesn't have confidence in his coaching, and he's not a leader. His teams have no focus and no discipline, and it's all right there in the article.

We need someone that the players respect, someone that has a real philosophy. Not someone that is swimming in concepts that he doesn't know how to teach.

Repeating and no idea what it looks like at other places but a main theme I took from that is it sounds like at the actual physical phase of practice there's a lot of lengthy explaining without much room to learn and do.

Reading that article again now. 2 questions he asks his team rather than telling them.

Why can't we rebound?

Why can't we guard ball screens?

You would think that a coach would have the answer to those. Also, he gets mad about lack of effort in practices 2 days in a row. Need some motivation and culture changes.

Does Foster still have 4 years of eligibility? Have not heard if he received a medical redshirt or not.
