A night with no homework and a lot of creative juices flowing got me to thinking about what the football team could sport if they were ever chosen to wear a Pro Combat Jersey from Nike.
For this concept, I decided to go with a more unknown (but still very good looking) jersey rather then one that was worn by a good football team here at Iowa State. Nike tends to pull their inspiration from what looks good then fill in some good bull crap to why the alumni should care.
The uniform that I picked to imitate (imitate being used lightly) was the 1956 home uniform. The helmet was loosely inspired by the 1975 helmet.
I used the 1956 uniform very loosely as an inspiration for the pro combat, using a lot of modern elements of the current football identity. The result turned out to be this:
On the current cardinal helmets the main focus is on the yellow STATE overlapping the I. On this Pro Combat, I decided to move the STATE focus to the jersey and allow the I to stand alone on the helmet. The I also take the place of the I-State on the pants. The sleeves are located on the undershirt. This is becoming popular for Nike due to the shrinking size of sleeves on jerseys and football players wearing a longer sleeve undershirt more often. This effect is shown by this Oregon State jersey:
I also went ahead and made the undershirt. Nike tends to put a team slogan on the chest of the shirt so they can sell it to the fans, so I put the usual cyclONE nation on the chest of this undershirt with a "hidden" cyclone in the background.
And of course a Pro Combat set would not be complete without the logo flashing palms. I did not want to be like all the other schools, and figured that the ALL IN slogan was simple enough to fit on the gloves.
I will close up the post with a picture of the undershirt and the helmets close up. Sorry for the lengthy post, but i hope you enjoy. Let me know what you all think about the jersey and I'll try to change it to see how it looks. Thank you for taking the time to look this over and GO CYCLONES!!
