-The Mangino news is troubling. Turnover of the staff is usually not helpful to a team trying to turn its program around.
-The freshman running backs have done a good job running the football, but the last couple of weeks they (especially against TCU) they did poorly blocking blitzing linebackers on passing plays. Historically coaches do not like to gamble the wellfare of their quarterback on the blocking ability of a freshman running back, but all ISU has is freshman running backs.
-Both the offensive and defensive lines have performed much better this year as compared to last year. The running game is finally working and this year the defensive line is moving forward instead of reverse.
-Before the season started the talk was all about our receivers. I think most would agree that they have been greatly underutilized. We play against teams that regularly throw up long pass and expect their receivers to out play our corners who are usually in good position. Yet, while we have receivers who are 6-6 and 6-5, we do not seem to do the same with them when they are playing against much shorter corners.
-The coaches did not take much risk in the Texas Tech game and they killed us. In the TCU game they started to take some risk and the team responded and has since played with more heart and emotion. I hope we continue to call more risky plays for the rest of the year.
-Was hoping we were finished with high powered offenses for the year, and then I noticed that OSU and Oklahoma scored in the 50's and 60's last week.

-I honestly don't think it will make much of a difference either way but I believe Rhoads sees the writing on the wall and knows there's a good chance of him getting fired this year. If that's the case he wants the offense to be run the way he wants which I think is silly but I respect.
-Yes, they are freshman and picking up blocks has been a far secondary to them in the past, they will improve
-Mostly love the jobs both lines have done so far this year. The biggest complain has been rarely bringing more than 3 on third and long
-Find ways to get the ball to your playmakers above all else in space(Warren, Lazard, Bundrage)
-Exactly, you win games in the Big 10 and SEC playing the field position battle, showing the team you have confidence in them to convert a 4th or execute a fake can do wonders/shift momentum. Really liked how the staff picked their spots on Saturday
-There is a lot individual talent on the offense but we have only seen flashes of it and never as a complete group for more than a couple of drives in a row. If it ever comes together for a majority of a game, I believe we can be there too

Re: Random thoughts

Not that the plays will be called by someone different, wondering if the ball will be thrown down the field more to take advantage of the WR's. This will also be aided by a QB who physically can throw the ball down the field.

Re: Random thoughts

Why is it called a gridiron? Don't the lines have to cross to be a grid?

Re: Random thoughts

Why can't ISU have quarterbacks with cool names like Seneca, Steele and Sage anymore? Now we're stuck with Joel, Sam and Grant... boring.
