Do the frats still do the homecoming yard displays like they did years ago? I remember some of those were pretty interesting

Oldest son was up at 3:45 this morning. Really confused at first until I realized the time change meant he was "right on schedule" for his weekend morning, tractor videos on YouTube appointment... something tells me I'm going to need more coffee

This is the first morning of my annual effort to stop staying up till to 1:30 and sleeping till 9-930. Pretty much fails every year as a gradually backslide since my inner sloth is prone to sleeping in. Today I did get up at 8:20 clock time. If I could maintain that and sneak it back 30-40 minutes I could get off of living west coast time.

Went for breakfast, same place, it was just as packed as it is on Friday nights. Half of the people there were from Illinois. Do they not serve breakfast in IL? And it is Sunday so there's the meat raffle too, so that draws a crowd.

Ch 13 is talking about today's kids game for wbb. They emphasized tickets are available at ticketmaster.
Why not promote buying tickets at the box office and avoid the extra fees?

They recently finish 24th street from Stange to Hayes. It went from 4 lanes down to 3. They also added a small island cross walk about in the middle (which I am sure the city snow plow drives will just love). Still dark yet at 6 am on the way home from the gym and I noticed they painted a turning arrow in the turning lane, as you are headed east, about 20 yards from the cross walk island other wise I would have taken a picture of it. Funny part is the arrow is pointing north to the sidewalk. They turning arrows that lead to nowhere I guess. I chuckled an thought to myself, "Ames City street engineers getting paid, to screw things up." Seems about right these days.

The MiG-21's are back. Three of them flying for AJ's Yard Minon's are back and assaulting the leaves across the street. They are being supported by a self-propelled assault vehicle mounting a yuge mobile wind tunnel. The giant vacuum mother ship is on standby.
How I now picture Boxster's neighborhood...

*Prepare yourself, this post might be disturbing to some readers. I don't know how to post this gently, but it is definitely on my mind...

On occasion when we are in Ames we will go to that country church, Sts. Peter and Paul out on R38 on the Story/Boone Co. line. Last winter one of the few days we went to that church the roads were pretty slick. We were waiting for Mass to start and then after about 5 minutes of waiting after start time someone went up to the ambo and announced that the priest had gone in the ditch and someone was going to get him so we would be delayed. The priest was just fine but our 1 hour for Mass turned into 2 hours for Mass.

Yesterday we again went out to Sts. P & P and sat down in the second to last row. During the opening hymn an elderly gentleman in the last row across the aisle from us went down with a medical emergency. At first they thought it might be a blood sugar issue but soon they had the AED on him and were performing CPR. The AED would check for a pulse every couple of minutes and advise to shock or not. After 15 or 20 minutes paramedics arrived, they put that automatic chest pumper device on him and took him to the hospital. Mrs. Velo and I both thought he looked like he was already dead long before the ambulance arrived. My thought was as a Christian, what better place to go if you have to go than in a church full of congregation, a deacon and a priest praying for you? We prayed both for him to be alright but also if it was time for him to go for his soul. Talk about a way to remind you of your mortality.

I'm beginning to wonder if we should stop going there because it seems to be bad luck for people about a third of times we do show up.

That was not how we expected to start our Sunday.

Made it one day than fell off the wagon.

What happens when we spring forward, sleep in until 10:30?

Getting a raise here in a couple weeks, not sure how much yet. One of my coworkers might leave for another job. Boss said we're all going to have another meeting to discuss showing up on time and working while at work, but that's mainly about the young kids.

Another installment in the continuing saga of “really?” I saw a young man probably 6th grade or so at today’s wbb game wearing an Iowa t shirt. He did have a poster in hand, so there’s that.
