-The Mangino news is troubling. Turnover of the staff is usually not helpful to a team trying to turn its program around.
-The freshman running backs have done a good job running the football, but the last couple of weeks they (especially against TCU) they did poorly blocking blitzing linebackers on passing plays. Historically coaches do not like to gamble the wellfare of their quarterback on the blocking ability of a freshman running back, but all ISU has is freshman running backs.
-Both the offensive and defensive lines have performed much better this year as compared to last year. The running game is finally working and this year the defensive line is moving forward instead of reverse.
-Before the season started the talk was all about our receivers. I think most would agree that they have been greatly underutilized. We play against teams that regularly throw up long pass and expect their receivers to out play our corners who are usually in good position. Yet, while we have receivers who are 6-6 and 6-5, we do not seem to do the same with them when they are playing against much shorter corners.
-The coaches did not take much risk in the Texas Tech game and they killed us. In the TCU game they started to take some risk and the team responded and has since played with more heart and emotion. I hope we continue to call more risky plays for the rest of the year.
-Was hoping we were finished with high powered offenses for the year, and then I noticed that OSU and Oklahoma scored in the 50's and 60's last week.
