The good news was the CFP final between the Buckeyes and Irish was the most watched non-NFL game over the last year.

The bad news, viewership was down 12% compared to the Wolverine and Husky Championship game last year. Michigan always figures a way to beat the THE OSU.;)

They able to track ratings by half?

Not much fanfare to begin with, then seems like people tuned out when OSU raced out to a big lead.

It's too long of a wait. You are in the full swing of the NFL playoffs. I completely forgot about it and when I found out, I still didn't care. Take a note CFP comittee, interest drops in your product when the NFL is playing the post-season. There was no rational reason to stretch the CFP playoff out so long

Apparently they can track by 15 minute increments. the article mentions peak viewership was 26.1M from 8:30-8:45p ET. Guessing that was right before half.

As Coach Day mentioned, the season is WAY too drawn out, these teams started playing before the NFL and played longer then all but 4 NFL teams…I don’t know the solution. But…I do know the state of Ohio is extremely happy to win the Natty!

Length of season almost surely played a part. I had nearly forgot about the game.

I also thought kick off was early. It’s still 430 in the west coast when that game starts.

Also, in fairness, our second biggest media market is literally burning down burning down and there was a presidental inauguration going on. There is plenty going on right now to distract from football.

They waited way too long. Year 1 was a total disaster imo. A majority of the games were terrible. As some of us talked about over the weekend, they waited way too long as most of us have moved onto basketball and the NFL playoffs.

I honestly forgot about the game and I couldn't even remember who Notre Dame and OSU even beat in the semifinals to get there.

The one thing that did surprise me was the fan turnout. I had serious doubts an entire fanbase would show up for essentially 3 bowl games. I don't know many people that could even afford to travel for that many games, but I guess they had so many fans it didn't matter.

The media has been spinning this throughout the playoffs. But the CFP ratings have been underperforming for what ESPN paid for this.

I also forgot about the game on Monday until that Monday afternoon, since I had just watched a weekend of NFL and ISU basketball, and it was a holiday

Here is who I (and I assume most people)root for in Playoffs- in order:
A."Your Team" ISU-here.
B. .The Cinderella (smaller school)
C. Other Teams in your conference (except for the 1-3 (depending on conf) douche schools that all others hate)
D. Midwest Schools
E. Then the rest
F. Top SEC schools
G. Then those Douche Schools, that all others hate.

***OSU(G) vs ND(G)

Everyone despises those two.....

They have a problem on their hands. There's a growing divide between the fans of the "haves" and the "have nots", and there is just nothing compelling for the fans of the "have nots" in the playoff. The extent to which I don't give a **** about who wins between ND and OSU is astronomical. I watched Food Network re-runs instead of the game. They've made the regular season meaningless for 90% of teams, they've made bowls meaningless and you can't be surprised when people stop caring and stop watching.
