I like to think my donation and football tickets help pay for something … maybe a few new football helmets a year. You don't pay the bills.

In a content world. Basketball is a much bigger deal than it has been in the past. No one is saying it's football. But having 20+ games for each member of a 12 team conference is A TON of live inventory. It's even more enticing for a streamer who wants people to pay for ESPN+ from August to April
Thats good, as I feel like basketball is growing, but dont get the wrong idea either. Yormark know football is king right nowThey had Yormark on GameDay for about 30 seconds this morning. They asked him one question about the strength of Big 12 football, and I thought it was really interesting that he went out of his way to pump up Big 12 basketball during that 30 second spot.
It makes me think that he truly wants to lean in on basketball moving forward. With other conferences pivoting to football at the expense of basketball (ie no more Big Ten b-ball on ESPN), it probably does make sense for us to lean in the opposite direction. It certainly differentiates us from the PAC, and it's something we can outcompete the BIG/SEC in.
I've got to imagine that the premier college basketball matchups in packed arenas that our conference provides will be attractive to networks/streamers.

Basketball will matter when the P5 leave the NCAA and form their own tournament. Until then, the big revenue creator in basketball will continue to fund the NCAA and championships for the non-revenue sports. But for now, the Big12 isn't getting a significant bump in their TV deal for being the best basketball league.
Neuheisel did actually coach at Washington so he probably does have some inside sources. Maybe."S O U R C E S"
One question is how much of the $1B from the Tourney actually gets spent on those non-rev sports? Does the NCAA keep half and spread it out to their generally incompetent committees? How much of that $1B could you catch and share out to the conferences and teams while still funding the non-revs?
Title 9 still exists. What makes you think the SEC and Big10 are all that interested in funding non-revs? Once they can start paying football players directly, those sports just take away their chance to buy a title.
To be fair, "all but done" can be wildly different from "done deal" which is how much of expansion twitter is interpreting it.
It could be Wannstedt 2.0
It could also be a misspeak/interpretation
I would be SHOCKED if this is actually anything imminent.
One thing is for certain- Washington and Oregon wanting to leave is a done deal. If the Big Ten is interested, away they go.Neuheisel did actually coach at Washington so he probably does have some inside sources. Maybe.
Appreciate you posting this. So many on their board jump to hypothetical future scenarios without understanding there are actual laws and policies in place to stop that.Title 9 still exists.
I’m sure top men are frantically working on every loophole and workaround they can think of, including making “college” football an entirely independent for-profit entity that only leases the name/mascots of the universities without any other connection in order to evade Title IX, and that prevents sharing football media profits with any other group.Appreciate you posting this. Totally agree that if the big ten extends an invite that they jump but I just don’t know if they do extend the invite. Also with the changes to the playoff why would they want to leave? They are essentially guaranteed a playoff spot every couple years and only have utah to compete with. One thing is for certain- Washington and Oregon wanting to leave is a done deal. Could a couple people be doing some thought experiments on it? Sure. Is it actually happening? No it’s not. The top two conferences are very happy with they way things are. No need to blow it up. Also university presidents don’t want to deal with any title9 fall out or the complication from moving away from the existing model. Finally what you propose would involve all the conferences working together which will also not happen.I’m sure top men are frantically working on every loophole and workaround they can think of, including making “college” football an entirely independent for-profit entity that only leases the name/mascots of the universities without any other connection in order to evade Title IX, and that prevents sharing football media profits with any other group.
Top. Men.
(I am not a legal expert, I don’t even know if the above scenario is possible, but I’ll bet you it’s been discussed)
They playoff money would have to be pretty big to offset their new contract, which contrary to their rumored demands, won't get off the ground if the revenue sharing isn't equal.Totally agree that if the big ten extends an invite that they jump but I just don’t know if they do extend the invite.
