That is what I am not sure about, and if they do pay, how much they do. etc.Do the schools even pay? Isn't Nike, UA, Adidas getting advertising by all the players wearing their gear?

Yeah I think most of us here saw this. Those deals, alliances, scheduling deals dont work. Not surprising that they were having these talks, and I think most on here knew it wasn’t going to work. If a partnership or merger wouldn’t work for the Big XII, I don’t see how something similar with the ACC would be any different.
Unless the PAC somehow gets a deal to out them in the same neighborhood as the ACC and Big XII, I don’t see how they hang on to all 10 members.

I seem to remember reading a couple of years ago that most schools don't receive out right money, but get several hundred thousand in apparel and gear for free. I could be wrong and at least maybe the top schools get cash compensation on top of the gear. That is what I am not sure about, and if they do pay, how much they do. etc.
I don’t think anybody really expected 2+2 to equal 5, but sometimes you have run the numbers. The PAC as a whole is just too far behind the ACC and Big XII to make it work for everyone.Yeah I think most of us here saw this. Those deals, alliances, scheduling deals dont work.
And a full merger, is good for the Pac and is a loss for the Big 12.
Most of us have been saying this.
The only way this works for the Big 12 is if we take the best fits and values that work for us and leave the dead weight.
I think the PAC has had a false sense of superiority for a long time and they are finally waking up. Little by little.
Ok, well I was thinking each school still paid some for all gear etc. even at a much reduced cost. If its free then it doesnt matter what I was thinking. Even still it probably would not be a big enough cut.I seem to remember reading a couple of years ago that most schools don't receive out right money, but get several hundred thousand in apparel and gear for free. It was free gear, some extra money to the school and then the basketball coach gets paid a bunch by the company but the football coach does not. Knight would need to add more than even he can probably to make it worth enough that every school doesnt lose money.

And yeah, it’s time to start looking at what PAC members can add value or pull their weight in the Big XII or ACC, and which conference might be a better fit for the schools.
I’d be all for having a very reasonable buyout/penalty in our next GOR for schools leaving for the SEC, Big 10, or some future combination therefor. That could be a key differentiator to get WA and OR in the fold. It’s clear the P2 are well ahead of everyone else, so the race is on for #3. The whole goal is to stay ahead of the ACC, and landing the best off what’s left of the PAC is a great way to do

Add 3, and then tell them, which one wants in for the fourth? If they both jump, then grab a 6th and call it good. If Stanford goes Indy, I could see Oregon doing that also. So that would give Washington. I could see Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Stanford thinking they could work an 8 team league. They would have Cal and the two state schools. Find one more and be a small conference.Add the four corner schools and apply pressure on Oregon and Washington. It’s always been the best move.
What can they do at that point?
*Continue to beg the B1G, SEC, ACC? It’s out of their control.
*If those leagues say no… add 4-6 Mountain West schools to make the Pac work with Cal, Stanford, Wazzu, and Oregon State? How is this an appealing option? San Diego State, Fresno State, Boise State, UNLV, Colorado State, New Mexico are supposed to be more attractive than the Big 12?
*Independence is a huge risk. They would be treated more like BYU than like Notre Dame. Scheduling is hard and you are just hoping to make any bowl game if you miss the CFP.
The Big 12 is better than all of those options.

Arizona 247 guy says that Pac-12 sources are saying three outcomes are in the mix:
1. Big 12 gets aggressive and tries to add schools ASAP, tries to make it official very soon.
2. The ten in the Pac-12 stick together on a short-term media contract.
3. The Pac-12 expands with Mountain West or AAC options in order to have more inventory for negotiations.
He thinks (1) is the most likely, but different people had different thoughts on which was the most likely. But he says that (3) is picking up steam as an option among the Pac-12.
Both (2) and (3) suggest that the TV $$$ numbers coming in for the ten-team league are not very good. So they don't want to commit to a long-term deal with that conference structure. Either do short term for survival and then revisit it soon, or expand and then go back to the market with a conference that looks different.
It seems like in the fairly near future we will know which way this has shaken out. For what it's worth Scheer did not mention the Pac-12 poaching the Big 12 as an option.
Colorado might be the most vulnerable and open to join the Big12, from what I've gathered.I just keep coming back to the Big 12 should go hard after Arizona and Arizona State first. They fit culturally. They’re not elite academic schools. It cripples the PAC-10.
These are almost identical mileages (this surprised me a bit):
TucsonDallas / San Fran
TucsonKC / Eugene
TucsonAmes / Seattle
TucsonBYU / Utah
If you want 4 - just start with the 2 most vulnerable (arizonas) and then you can pick your next 2.
