If I’m understanding correctly, B1G can expand and the new/extra inventory (presumably a late time slot) could still be on the table for ESPN to bid on- essentially meaning they could still get that “PAC-12 after dark” slot by way of the B1G instead of overpaying the whole PAC-12 to try and keep that conference together and prevent the top teams from leaving.

Incentive - check
Want - check
Media partner - check

This is the final death of a great conference. Also screws over PAC expansion candidates.

Does this force the SEC into action?

Sankey’s lawyers are probably analyzing every letter of that ACC G.O.R

You know he can’t stand not being the center of attention.

Even Canzano is changing tune:

Hummm.....

Neither Amazon nor Apple made it to the dance floor. Peacock is the only party with an exclusive-streaming package. This surprised some industry insiders who expected Amazon and Apple to be bigger players. Maybe this bodes well for the Pac-12? Or maybe it’s just too soon for the streamers to be factors. We’ll soon know

The Big 10 vocally leaving the door open for expansion is exactly what the Big 12 needed.

Still plenty of windows left for our games too. Today was a massive win for our conference!
"Still plenty of windows left for our games too."

Help me with this one, what windows are left that will deliver value to our contract?

Late Afternoon and Evening on FOX. Early window on ABC/ESPN. Early window on CBS/NBC (though that seems unlikely at this point).

I just don’t see how there’s still this perception that the PAC-12 holds more leverage. The notion that because their GOR will come up for negotiation first is not an advantage in my opinion- if anything, it could be what causes their already weakened foundation to collapse.

Sure, if they could convince everyone to sign a 5-7 year GOR, great- but not if it binds schools to unequal distribution and let’s those “best option remaining” schools walk free. I also don’t think those best option schools can bluff their way through that hand- especially when the B1G is clearly not done.

Yeah, but there's also way too much overconfidence coming from Big 12 fans running their mouths on Twitter. The bottom line is that anyone not in the B1G or SEC is not in control of their own fate, and if a TV network decides your conference shouldn't exist anymore, it won't exist.

A few with Fox and their other channels, potentially one with CBS or NBC. Some with ABC/ESPN and their other channels, Big12 network on Amazon.

Will those windows be directly competing with big 10 and SEC games on other networks?

So the Big Ten adds CAL, Stanford, Washington, Oregon would mean they need to come up with another 300-400 million per year. It makes sense though, to take over the best teams in the west. They could sell that and give a pod of teams out west.

I think the BIG saying they are not done pretty much confirms to me they PAC12 is going to die.
6 leave for the BIG, 4 leave for the B12, OSU, WSU go to the MWC.

With revenues in the BIG approaching 100M, Why would Clemson want to stick around until 2036?
You could pay the ACC 250M-500M buyout (which is insane) and still come out way ahead than making 35M per year with the ACC. The SEC can't even offer this at this point.

I really think the BIG is going to try and put the SEC in its place by going from 14 to 22-24 teams. Just my opinion.

they would pretty much own it all at that point and only leave the SEC with FSU and Miami.

Which would mean they may come looking for Okie State (maybe a Texas school) and some left over ACC scraps which will not move the needle close to the BIG.
I think everyone is forgetting that the SEC will want to counter. This isn't done. If a late window can help the SEC, then look for them to absorb some teams in the West. Oregon, Washington, Utah, ASU?

ESPN could always throw a larger number (won't say big number after today) for the top 12 teams left in a PAC - Big 12 situation

Kill both conferences.

Those ******* are evil.

that won't be SEC?

edit to add: or ACC
SEC is only guaranteed the late afternoon window and the ACC is guaranteed nothing other than 4 prime time kicks on ABC. It can't be overstated how truly awful the ACC did with their deal.

Every window on Saturday, other than late night (maybe), will be competing with Big Ten and SEC games. If you want exclusive, you'd have to look at Friday night.

Peacock doesn’t require a paid subscription, so an outlier in the model. Basically just another NBC channel.

Maybe the two As have their hearts set on pro sports.

edited to doesn’t, need to not multitask….I am not capable

Why weren't Amazon and Apple "bigger players"? They didn't have the cash? Or has the Big Ten determined that streaming isn't all it's being made out to be? What the Big Ten did did do was made sure they got themselves plenty of OTA exposure...

I've gotta imagine it was Apple or Peacock but not both. Dip your toe in the streaming market before commiting to it. NBC won out as they have the late game.

I agree with the OTA. They certainly have the exposure. The only drawback I could see is that since these are all on different channels you aren't going to see the promotions for the late games on the earlier games. I don't know if that'll matter much, but it's something to pay attention to. ESPN/ABC go all in with the promotions throughout the day to the point of being obnoxious.

SEC will always be better at actual football because Big Ten grandfathering in so much dead weight and is just in worse football country in general.

Give them 50% more cash, I don't know that it'd actually bring in more championships.

If media money was going to turn every Big Ten school into a powerhouse they'd have a deeper conference by now, they've already been making among the most.
