I agree I think 8 would be pushing it. Maybe its only 7, half of 14, not including ND, for dissolution? Even then, if Oregon and Washington are border line P2 what's that say for ACC schools?

In:
FSU
Clemson

Possibly:
Miami
UNC
Virginia

Doubtful:
VT
BC
Syracuse
NCST
Duke
Pitt
Louisville
WF
GT

There would have to be an unspoken collusion between B1G, SEC and B12 to get to 8 (if that's even the magic number).

Would also mean Big 2 taking schools they don't need but have to take to reach that 8 school threshold.

For example:

SEC gets: FSU, Clemson, Miami

B1G gets: UNC, GT

B12 gets: first three schools to say yes to the liferaft.

If this is true, I imagine it'd be a quick discussion. I would think the Big 10 knows the value Oregon would bring to its conference. It's really if the Big 10 wants them or not at this point. I think the Big 10's sights are on the ACC.
The B1G’s sights are on Notre Dame, and I don’t think the conference is in any particular hurry to consider anybody else. I think they’d appreciate another pair of West Coast teams, eventually (between Oregon/Washington/Cal/Stanford), and if Virginia and/or UNC became available they’d take ‘em.

Agree. All signs are ND giving the B1G a stiff arm with the promise of a solid deal from NBC. I'd bet talk of any other additions cool until next summer now that the season is almost here.

Talks a little bit about the Big 12 as well:

how can both things in that headline be true? its like saying 'the sky is falling' and 'the ground is moving away from sky at the exact rate of falling' simultaneously.

This is absolutely wild. Per this guys article, one of the Pac 12's best options is Phil Knight becoming an "equity partner" in the conference. Letting a rich superfan of the league's most powerful remaining school own stake in the conference?? That sure sounds fair. Would be shocked if that happens and even more shocked if schools sit around and let it happen

Some of those guys get it. But man the ones that want to stay, that is a huge risk. There is no guarantee the Big 12 always has a spot for all these schools. Not hard to imagine cal and Stanford leaving, and big 12 takes only Oregon an Washington, and 2 of Utah, Arizona, Colorado and ASU.

I would be getting while the getting is good. Really short sighted to wait if I am one of the 4 corners. Just huge risk for those schools right now.

Lol at Conzano touting the Pac-12's consultant as being "The point person behind the NHL television deals for years."

Those deals sucked and are a big reason why hockey isn't covered like a major sport anymore.

If the P2 go ahead with exiting the NCAA and starting their own basketball tournament, this math may change on some of these schools. CBS pays around $1B annually for the NCAA tournament. That may make basketball matter a bit more than it does now. Not saying it would matter as much as football, but it gives a school like Duke a chance.
in my mind that’s the next shoe to drop. The p5 conferences are already leaving a lot money on the table. If you let the acc bb schools and big 12 a decent cut on basketball and fold the pac 12, there is a way to make everyone a lot happier than they are now.

Except all the small schools losing out all their NCAA sponsored events, they would be hosed. I would grieve for that, but not for whatever overhead % the NCAA itself keeps to distribute to all the stuffed shirts there.

I can't imagine a tournament without those smaller schools. I'd imagine the P2 announces their intentions to start up another tournament and gives all conference champs an invitation. The point wouldn't be to change the tournament, just where the money goes.

Who gets screwed in the end would be the non-revenue sports that have their championships exist because of the funding from the basketball tournaments. But the SEC and Big10 don't care about that. They need their $100m per school. Cause how could they operate with any less?

They will be hurt the worst. but i wouldn’t be surprised if 500 million is distributed to the non p5 schools and the ncaa stuffed shirts.
