You think adding Oregon waters down the B1G?
So, the actions taken by the BIG and SEC over the last 10 years on realignment have been consistent with the "no need to blow it up" approach? Or ok... NOW finally they are "very happy", and will shut down any further dramatic changes to college football. I find that delusional.Could a couple people be doing some thought experiments on it? Sure. Is it actually happening? No it’s not. The top two conferences are very happy with they way things are. No need to blow it up. Also university presidents don’t want to deal with any title9 fall out or the complication from moving away from the existing model. Finally what you propose would involve all the conferences working together which will also not happen.
Betting against title 9 in this era especially with university presidents making these decisions is very stupid. The actual actions taken have indicated a level of greed that is unlikely to stop. Title 9 wouldn't stand a chance.
313-150 + 184-92 + 129-58 + 38:15-21:45 = 10-7Adding more teams waters down about any conference.
313-150 + 184-92 + 129-58 + 38:15-21:45 = 10-7
I don't think adding a top-10/15 program waters things down. I don't think SEC adding OuT watered that conference down, and Oregon is as good or better than both.
313-150 + 184-92 + 129-58 + 38:15-21:45 = 10-7To me it does in the sense of intensity year to year between teams/programs. Like it's just one more team that gets scheduled quasi randomly even if they're good.
Unless teams only play interdivisional opponents which I think makes it more interesting.
You cant really be serious to think that adding OUT watered down the SEC...313-150 + 184-92 + 129-58 + 38:15-21:45 = 10-7

Makes sense. Will be interesting to see how they divide up conference play. All indications are no more divisions so at least the most deserving teams will play for the conference title.
The Big10 & SEC gave the G5 and other P5 a seat at the table as long as it fits their interests. Is there a reason as to why other conferences won't have to vote on this anymore? They just gave everyone else a seat at the table.
I was under the assumption that the payouts would be per team selected. I think that would be satisfactory to all parties. The Big10 & SEC gave the G5 and other P5 a seat at the table as long as it fits their interests.
Do you think a 16 or 20 team Big 10 is going to be willing to take the same $ as a Pac10 or Big12? Especially when the Big10 & SEC expect to have 7-8 of the playoff teams most years.
They let is slide because today each P5 conference receives around $75M. With a 12 team playoff each conference could receive $300M+ with equal splits.
If there is any given with realignment- it's greed.
That would be a big departure from the current payout method where each P5 gets an equal share and all G5 split a little more than each P5 conference. Currently, the 4 playoff teams each receive around $5M.I was under the assumption that the payouts would be per team selected. I think that would be satisfactory to all parties.
Not exactly what Im saying. Meant more on the lines of those conferences can vote on stuff now I believe. Dont think they can remove that nowThe Big10 & SEC gave the G5 and other P5 a seat at the table as long as it fits their interests.

Like it or not the B1G and SEC make way more money if the other conferences are involved than if not. If breaking away to get a larger slice of the pie means the pie is cut in half, then they don't do it. They may threaten to do it like the SEC did this off-season, but no one takes it seriously because at the end of the day all of these decisions have been made in the interest of making the most money, which cutting out the other conferences wouldn't do.The G5 have had a vote as long as there has been a 4 team playoff.
Currently the 60 G5 programs split around $90M. I am skeptical that the P5 + ND will agree to bump that up to around $300M (using same payout %).
Like it or not if the Big10 & SEC feel their teams will make up 7-8 teams in a 12 team playoff, they will want more than an equal split.
It's a nuclear solution, but the $ are significant enough that from a negotiating stance, those two conferences could threaten to breakaway and create their own 8 team playoff. I bet ESPN & Fox would bid on it.
But they could make even more money if they push for an uneven split.Like it or not the B1G and SEC make way more money if the other conferences are involved than if not. My feeling is the 6 conferences with auto bids will each get a "share" ie 1/12th each of the pay, then each team from there on out will get an additional share. So if a conference gets 1 autobid and an at large bid they would get 2 shares. If a conference gets just the auto bid they get 1 share. 2 at large with the autobid 3 shares. That would be a big departure from the current payout method where each P5 gets an equal share and all G5 split a little more than each P5 conference. Currently, the 4 playoff teams each receive around $5M.
My understanding is the 10 commissioners and ND AD are meeting in Dallas at the end of next week to discuss specifics.
Yea, conferences that get more teams in playoff are going to want more money.
They could make the initial autobid shares a larger piece of the pie, then the bonus for getting an at large or second team less. Thus someone like ND would not be able to get an entire conference share, but a bonus team amount, or make special agreements for them. etc.
They also could just split the pie evenly between the P5/G5 like the current deal, but I doubt that. The ability to have multiple teams is going to make those conferences want to be able to get bonus money for having more teams. I think it will be split between those in the playoff, with those having multiples getting more how much more is the question.
