WVU AD said that WVU's travel costs for basketball alone was 7 figues, and it would be an economic loss for WVU if PAC schools were added unless scheduling arrangements were made.

I think the big 12 needs a 4th eastern team for pods.

and yes, the WVU AD said the expanded big 12 needs pods, especially for olympic sports.

He was on The 3 guys before the game podcast if anyone wants to hear it.

Maybe our new eastern teams need/want that but teams like AZ/ASU and the pac schools in PNW have always had a ton of travel. AZ is going to have similar travel distances in Big 12 they always had. If they had joined original Big 12 their travel probably goes down significantly.

So far it’s 3. BYU was always just circumstances and geography. Not that they aren’t actually a major conf athletic dept.
I’d say Cincinnati was comparable to BYU and borderline P5/P6. Houston and UCF not nearly so.

It certainly seems like Ohio’s population and hs football should support more than one major conference team. I’m guessing had Cincy been in bigger conference for decades they’d be thought of as no different than any middle of the pack major conf team.

FWIW my coworker just took their kid to UCF freshman orientation. Even though they aren’t sports fans (not originally from Florida) they said all they heard all weekend was “Big 12” and now they know what the Big 12 is.

That paints a pretty nice picture for the outlook of us in the new conference.

I’m dead serious that my sdsu alum friends here in LA wouldn’t have known about their Final Four had I not told them. It’s an entirely different thing than Midwest and even mountain regions.
That doesn’t shock me at all. It’s so far off a vast majority of people’s radar, a major event barely registers.

savage... does TX still have the home/away thing with AL that year?

Also, GA has never visited aTm in the 12 years they have been in the SEC.

I would hope these large 16 team conferences will have schedules which allow a home and home every 4 years with every member in football. That would seem to be the best solution.

That's what I was thinking/hoping for. At the very least, within a 4 year period, you play every school, whether that is home or away.

It's easy with a 16-team/9-game schedule to play everyone home and away in 4 years.

3 "protected" games (P)
6 other games, divided into two groups (A & B)

Year 1: P1, P2, P3, A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6
Year 2: flip year 1 sites
Year 3: P1, P2, P3, B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6
Year 4: flip year 3 sites

With CyTown still to come.
Exactly. I really appreciate Pollard recognizing during the first realignment apocalypse that ISU would have been in MWC due to the lack of investment in the facilities and coaches and with the last 10 years proactively invested to raise the profile and lower the potential of regulation of ISU when the next major realignment occurs.

Seems like the Big Ten is going to accomplish that with their model.
