That analogy totally depends on your priorities. I couldn’t care less if my HS team won another game ever. I think that everyone has a priority list of teams they follow. Even if is subconscious. In my case, ISU is so far above “my” NFL team that I choose to root for some former ISU players and the subsequent recruiting benefits over them. Not everyone is like that obviously. That’s ok.
I get that. I’m just as big of a Chiefs fan as I am a Cyclone fan, so for me it’s those teams first over individual players. But I do follow former Cyclone players more than I do former Chiefs players, by a lot. You just said Chiefs fans are greedy, but I doubt if the Cyclones won the Big12 you’d say ok guys let’s let someone else win the next one.

The difference is that the Cyclones aren’t my second favorite team. And the recruiting benefit of having a former player achieve at that level is immense. So yeah, if Purdy beating my team in the Super Bowl gets us one more recruit, I’m going to root for him despite being a big enough fan that I was memorizing Rams rosters since I was 7.

Was that the Cleveland Rams, the Los Angeles Rams, the Anaheim Rams, the St. Louis Rams, or the Los Angeles Rams?

Not Cleveland, that was before my time. But I was a huge Jim Everett, Henry Ellard, Flipper Anderson fan when they were in Anaheim. Would have probably had a couple titles if they didn’t run into the 49er dynasty.

Best to keep it positive with recruits we lose. When players transfer, frequently they are looking to come back home. Nebraska is close enough to meet this.
Rhule is probably counting on him portalling to NU after Raiola goes pro or transfers next year.

I couldn’t be any more different. I’ve been a Rams fan my whole life and have been rooting for the 49ers over them the past few years. To me, ISU fandom far outweighs any allegiance to pro teams that I didn’t really have a connection to in the first place.

Rooting for the chiefs over Purdy after they’d already won a couple of super bowls? In no way could I understand that.
Did you have Rams pajamas with feet in them with Roman Gariels # 18 on the shirt??? I did. :):) I hated the Niners they beat them every year. John Brodie QB I think.

Funny! I had the same PJs. However at the time and until just now I never knew who #18 was for. I didn't pay any attention to specific teams and players then. My parents weren't into sports a at all. They were just football PJs.
