Yes. And that's why the NCAA making a timely decision on Kempt is so critical. If they take too long then any decent grad transfer QB will have gone elsewhere. Competing with one guy is no big deal, but trying to leapfrog both Kempt and Noland (potentially without the benefit of spring practice reps)? Tall order for any QB.

and thats why they wont answer ISU for as long as possible. They are too busy answering the oklahomas, clemsons, and Alabamas of college football. Once their squared away then theyll look at ISU whenever that may be.

There's always turn over. Get as many high quality players as you can and let their efforts in camp and allow the chips to fall as they will.
Exactly. Not sure why some get pissy when talking about who is transferring out?

So with GT QB/Kempt, GT/Juco OL, Scates WR, not much room for anybody else...
That would be great, as it means Peavy and Butler are back.

But we’ll have turnover. Hopefully we don’t lose anyone from the projected two deep

I would LOVE to add Avonta Crim for next year. More so than Scates even, only because of position need. Crim has offers from ND, Louisville, UCF, Wake Forest, among others. Would be a great safety in a couple years for us.

No one can guarantee a start for a transfer. The kid at tOSU may not fit into the plan there. It happens. Guys get recruited over, maybe a step slower or short on some other metric their coaching staff is looking for. It is pretty clear that Manning can get the most out of what a QB has to offer after watching Kempt manage games this year. Most of these guys are looking for a place to go where they can get a new start and showcase what they can do.

No grad transfer QB would realistically expect a promise to start. But I bet most grad transfers would want a good chance to start. And, frankly, no matter if Kempt gets the extra year or not, I would think the chances of them starting would be pretty small.

I want to agree with that because that means we are locked and loaded, but until the grad transfer is here and spring ball is over, it is a guess at best in my opinion.

Toledo had an Alabama qb transfer and he started over a qb who had starting experience. In fact, they red shirted the kid his soph year after starting some as a true frosh. It was Woodside who now has become Toledo's record holder in most qb stat areas. Senior this year. SO.......................

Agreed. We are talking about a gt that most likely was a highly rank QB out of high school . If they don't feel they are good enough to come to ISU and beat out the guys that are coming back, then you don't want them at ISU.

Just curious, how do you think most fans feel? They want Kempt to get the 6th year, or are they hoping not, so the younger quarterbacks get experience and develop for the future? Obviously, its tempting to want Kempt back knowing he won us big games in October, won a bowl game, and now has finally some experience under his belt. Others might argue he's limited, as to his ceiling. Have no opinion, as its what the coaches want is what I would want.

Definitely want the experience back & Noland gets more experience to take over after that

I want kempt back, a juco qb, and zeb to compete for the job next year.

Highly unlikely he gets the 6th year, but it would be good for ISU if he did. Yes, he is limited, but he doesn't make a lot of mistakes, and when he does, it seems like he has lucked out with dropped balls or penalties t overturn them. Might be able to improve on those limitation with another year in the weight room. (I have nothing against luck, it is nice for ISU to get some of the good stuff for a change.)

We need more than Noland and two freshman. Kempt getting a 6th year means we basically got a good grad transfer without risk. But, if he doesn’t and we end up with Burrows or another top transfer I’ll be just as content.

CMC I believe would say you have the talent to start here. Win the competition. My opinion.

If it's an honest, wide open competition this off season, Zeb will win the job even if Kempt comes back.

This is what I tend to believe as well. I love Kempt and all the HUGE wins he had this season, but he has to be one of the luckiest guys I've ever seen, and I don't know if you can continue to be that lucky or not?

Throughout that Liberty Bowl game, Kempt was throwing just horrible balls. I know it was windy, but he was throwing a lot of wobbly ducks that should have been intercepted, but they were so short that our WRs were coming back to make the catch on them. Also, many passes well behind the WRs too, and that TD to Lazard was a miracle.

I feel like Zeb is better, but you couldn't go away from Kempt as long as we were winning and playing well. I did prefer Kempt over Park though. Park seemed more erratic, and had a higher upside, but a lower downside too IMO. I liked Kempt's calming presence. I just thought Zeb looked really good the little we saw of him.

Apparently, there was a high side problem.
