So, what exactly are the rules for keeping a redshirt? I was under the impression that you can play a certain amount of time on the field and still keep a redshirt. I ask as Guyer has now kicked off once against SDSU and was on the field for the on-side kick (in case we decided to kick it the other way).

Can he apply for a redshirt? Or is there no plan to redshirt Guyer?

A MEDICAL redshirt can be applied for if the player has played in something like less that 30% of the games at the beginning of the year.

1 play = no redshirt.

As Aclone said, you can apply for a medical hardship -- but that extra year is only applied for at the end of a player's eligibility, and is not always a given.

That wouldn't matter. He played in game 1 and game 8. Anything after game 4 is pretty much a no-go as far as a medical hardship is concerned.
