Will your place of work let you retire and buy into their policy? I’ve never worked with the ACA but friends of mine said it’s cheaper but deductibles we’re quite high.
ACA price is all based on your income, if you have a way to hide your income, you can qualify for great insurance at basically nothing. I know a few that are paying under $100 a month for BCBS insurance at a decent deductible, its all about hiding your income.

This was a couple who had one income of 40-45k and some unemployment payments from being laid off. Their income was pretty low for 2 kids.

My brother uses it, and has every since his divorce. They were on his wife's policy before that. One year he got covered which cost him $0 because he showed zero income. Right now he is paying less than $100 a month.

Its knowing how to use the system he tells me and you have to own your own business.

Maybe, but he has never had any tax problems. Its amazing what a business can call a business expense when you have great records. I would guess their are multiple farmers in the state doing exactly the same thing. On paper they are making little or no money, but reality is totally different

Last sentence is the shady part, not saying hes breaking any laws. And not to bash too hard but doing this is the worst way of gaming the system. Right up there with those who took PPP loans without needing them and never paying them back

PPP program was a basic ripoff of the federal government and totally legal. Every farmer I know got money from the program, along with churches and a lot of other businesses that did not lose a dime during covid.

Last night I had a prime rib dinner going to one of those seminars about fixed index annuities. I always figured these seminars were a hard sell but they aren't. I figured if someone wants to buy me a meal at a nice place, why not?

Was it at 4 pm so you old people had your early bird deals? :)

Ameriprise---Thoughts about them? Their Quicken interface is terrible. Wife transfered xfrd a Roth to them and she likes the agent/service. I would like a one stop place. I am self directiing all of my retirement investments at Schwab and getting tired of the task.

I know I've plugged newretirement.com in the past but I wanted to give an update.

They've changed their name to Boldin, which I think was rather dumb but whatever.

Also, last week I noticed that they had a "live meeting" section so I thought I would check one out. About every week day they have a Zoom meeting to discuss the product and/or different retirement strategies. I've only attended one and it was surprisingly good. It's only 1/2 hour, you don't have to have your camera on, you don't have to talk, and most questions are done through the chat with the moderator answering questions. Having been through these types of things at work, I didn't learn a ton but there were some things about their web site that I learned.

I haven't tried any of their other recorded courses but I plan to as I get time.

Not a company I would use. The agents of theirs that I've seen are the ones who can't seem to stick with other companies and they will sell you crap in a box just to get the sale.

Now I feel old. I'm right with you. You have to remember that they made them look older than early 50s for the show (at least that is what Im telling myself)

Mrs Garrett was 53 in season 1. Prime rib, glass of wine, annuity talk, Duran Duran on the CD player....sounds pretty dang ok to me!
