Thoughts on this comment postgame from Rick Pitino after being asked if they were running up the score?

I don't like to see any team struggle like that, I really don't," he said. "I tried everything. We played four white guys and an Egyptian. I mean, we tried everything."

That's pretty funny, because I saw a highlight from that game. It was a 3/4 court, alley-oop where the kid finishing pulled himself up on the rim. The score was 55-11 (or something similar) at the time.

I think it's hilarious. Don't sign up to play if you aren't willing to get your butt kicked. I still get upset about the whole "Running up the score" talk though. Unless the other team agrees to not really guard you and we'll just trade baskets from here on out, then how do you tell your kids, "Don't try to score."

I think it's why hockey is becoming one of my favorite sports. There is no "Take it easy if you are up" mentality in that game.

I found it funny, but I also can't imagine the backlash if the question was "Coach Pitino, how would you respond to allegations that your team quit trying to win the game?" "Well, I was playing 4 black guys, what more do you expect me to do?"

True. Depends on who the fifth player is, though. If the other one is a "gym rat," the quote is probably accepted.
