RJ Young Interview with Hall, Eisworth, and Campbell

RJ Young posted his interviews from Big 12 Media Days. Here's the time stamp for Hall and Eisworth and the interview with Campbell.

I specifically wanted to point out the interview with Campbell. At one point RJ asks about Mike Rose and Will McDonald, and you can see Campbell get visibly excited. Based on how he usually acts around the media I'd almost call this a loss of composure. Worth a watch.

I probably shouldn’t admit this but I’ve never heard of this RJ Young.

But he’s super interesting to listen to and seems to know his stuff. Frankly those were the best interviews I’ve heard from media day. And god bless him for not asking Campbell why he’s still at Iowa state.

I learned about RJ during the 2020 season. He does a lot of Big 12 coverage because he's an OU fan. Recently he got hired by FOX. I think he has some good takes.

RJ did a good job, thanks for sharing. In his work before Fox Sports, he seemed more theatrical. I remember, I believe after our last win against OU, his reaction was, “IOWA STATE?!? FREAKING IOWA STATE!?!” and the disrespect was palpable. Respect is earned, I suppose.

It's interesting to see him evolve last year from the standard "We lost to Iowa freaking State!" after the early victory at Jack Trice, to giving some legitimate respect and even a little hype for Iowa State as a program after evaluating the total body of work at the end of the season. His YT channel is worth a subscribe.

RJ did a good job, thanks for sharing. In his work before Fox Sports, he seemed more theatrical. I remember, I believe after our last win against OU, his reaction was, “IOWA STATE?!? FREAKING IOWA STATE!?!” and the disrespect was palpable. Respect is earned, I suppose.

I don't blame him for that take at the time. At that point we had lost by 17 to ULL and had a rough performance against TCU. The OU game was the first game of the season where the rust was polished off.

I've always enjoyed RJ since he covers the Big 12 unlike any other media. I also like that he generally asks the non typical media questions and gets different answers from coaches

RJ did a nice job. I watched his interview with each coach and I wasn't very impressed with Riley. When RJ asked him to say 3 nice things about Texas, he refused. When asked what team has the nicest uniforms besides OU, Riley wouldn't respond.

CMC’s suit was the first thing I noticed on media days. Matt wore something that looked great on him rather than needing to scream the school colors like TCU or WVU as examples. His suit just fits everything about Iowa State football now.

Even that silly question was telling. Riley said he'd take Forrest Gump because he'd be a great kick returner, while Campbell said he'd take Rudy because attitude and effort are important to his team. Man, I love our coach.

It was a little strange, but overall RJ has been doing a good job covering the Big 12 for a while. His youtube videos were always good and well prepared, not a bunch of ranting or hot takes. Good analysis with some depth to it with some actual opinions without saying stuff for the sake of getting a reaction.

I think RJ is right there with the Heartland College Sports guys for high quality and deep Big 12 coverage. His OU bias comes through sometimes, but he keeps it pretty well in check.
