Will be interesting to see how the team 'gels' with her back...

Watching on TV. Saw some folks in the crowd getting really animated during a timeout. So glad to see Emily on the floor!

I had heard it was a back issue, and seems that she had issues in the past like this. Just not this extreme. May or may not be why she was out?

She wore a boot for a lower back problem?

Will be interesting to see if they ever talk about the reason she sat out. There were rumors floating around this summer/fall that she had a stress fracture and was not resting it properly to allow it to heal. Again these are rumors and I have nothing to substantiate them other what I have heard/read but if she was in a boot at some point that would possibly give those rumors some validity.

Regardless I am glad she is back as this team really missed their leader on the floor and hopefully she can get back up to speed and playing 30 minutes a game during conference play. Also will allow Belanger to player more off the ball, she did an adequate job filling in at PG but playing more as a shooting guard probably plays into her strengths more.

The addition of Belanger, the development of Jackson, and the emergence of Brown has been good to see. Hopefully, they will all mesh well with Ryan coming back.

Ryan was a prodigious scorer in high school and we know she can shoot the three from past seasons, plus she can penetrate and dish. IMO, she has difficulty staying in front of the quicker PG's on defense (Harmon from UT, Franklin from KU, etc.). Belanger (offense) & Jackson (defense) have looked pretty good at PG, and we could also be creative and initiate the offense thru SF Brown. In short, I wonder if Emily might reinvent herself as the starting SG, to be spelled by Joens.

Postscript: Yes, I know she's an all-conference PG with an amazing career Assist / TO Ratio! I'm just thinking about ten-deep minutes for this season and development for the future. I'm a big Kelsey Joens fan and don't want to see her as odd-girl out.

I don't think people have fully appreciated the defense and ball handling from Belanger who is moving up a full level in NCAA hoops. Heck, I was thinking she'd just be a three point threat but she's been improving each game IMHO. Like I said in other posts, we have enough good passers on the team that we do not need a PG completely running the show every possession.

Just spitballing but I don't see Ryan playing the kind of minutes she did last year. We have 80 minutes of guard play to fill each game and thinking all four will get ample PT. I am with you on Joens in thinking she has done really well.

It’s nice having options. This is hard to say, but her being out the first part of the season may be a blessing in disguise in the development of our other PGs. The thing I’d like to see her accomplish is getting the career assist record. She deserves it.
