Im with you. I do think we need to give them a year to see how they do but if they do well we need to give them a raise. Sick of losing lead recruiters on top recruits and it hurting our recruiting

Exactly but they better prove themselves for 2016-17...if they do then lets give them enough reason to stay. TJ making 275k in iowa as opposed to 218k with the cost of living out there is more than a 57k raise its more like 75-80k with cost of living. He should be more than happy.

Yep, going from 218k in Seattle to 275k in Ames, IA is more like a 100k raise when factoring in cost of living.

I have no problem with these salaries, but agree that if recruiting goes well this first year they will all need raises next year if we want them to stick around.

JP is saving some big money from Hoiberg and his staff to Prohm and his staff. And it better not all be going into the men's cross country program. He's going to need it to make a splash football hire when he has to let Rhoads go.

They are all ONE YEAR contracts. Does this provide an incentive to recruit really well, as in the best results get re-hired. Or, does this serve as a distraction to these guys, as in they spend energy looking for positions elsewhere when they should be All-In for ISU. Could also pull a recruit with them to new school.

The real carrot is probably free tuition for University employees.

Or not.

You have no idea what you are talking about do you? Washington has no state income tax while Otz is going to be paying the top level in IA at near 9%. Iowa is not as cheap as people want to believe. Washington is also one of the prettiest states in the nation.

But is Mann on contract with Iowa State even though he is not coaching here?

What does being prettier have to do with anything? I was talking about $$$.

I didn't realize Washington had no income tax, so that does make a big difference. However, Otz can afford a MUCH nicer house in Iowa than he could in Washington, that's for sure.

The fact of the matter is.... these dollar figures for the assistants must have been ok with Prohm and the assistants themselves, so nothing else really matters. These guys weren't forced to accepting these jobs.

$275,000 less 9% for Iowa taxes is $250,250.
$218,000 at Washington.
Still up $32k

"BIG difference??" This is simple math people. 9% reduced off something that starts 26% higher is still going to favor the one that started higher. And, you get to deduct the Iowa income tax off the federal taxes, so really that 9% he is paying is more like 5% after factoring in deductions.

Mann's contract expired this month. We are done paying him.

False. Mann and Henry's contracts did not expire. And I'm floored people are complaining about paying our assistants more, saying we should pay them even more.

Also one year contracts are very normal for basketball assistants, what do people not understand about that?

I believe most in here did not follow the 850 post thread, probably just think it is low since the head coach gets paid so much but really they are getting paid quite well as assistants for any school and better than low major head coaches.

Most collegiate assistant coaches in all sports are one year contracts. Two is pretty uncommon and three is practically unheard of.

No, I think most are thinking it is low based on how relatively little we are paying the HC in combination with how big and immediate our needs are. Imo after we hired a guy like Prohm, we needed to pay as much as we could afford (sorry XC and T&F) to make up some ground on the recruiting front. Instead we a guy from Loyola and another Murray Stater.

Berry must be a hell of a special assistant to the head coach to get $120k. Tough to get him to leave his old job and come up north, I suppose. Must have been critical in getting Ernst.

Not true. For the at least the last 10 years ISU has given assistants 2 year deals in football and basketball.

So you aren't complaining about the salaries of our current staff but about the current staff itself? I see it as we're paying 25% more than we did for a staff of a top 20 team with Final Four aspirations last year.
