Paul has been a defensive coach through out his career. Some head coaches take on either the offensive or defensive coordinators responsibilities. The coach at TCU runs the defense and several other head coaches call the offensive plays for their teams. Paul cannot be happy with the way the defense has played the last couple of years. The addition of Mangino last year provides some hope for the future for the offense. Something needs to change for the defense. I think Paul should step up and assume responsibility for the defense.

I don't think he should become DC but he should step in and become more involved if he already isn't. If he is...then I have no idea what to do with the defense.

If Wally retires I think CPR should call defensive plays next year and keep the same system. It will be a make or break year for him. I know I'm in the minority on this, but I think CPR's best chance to have a good enough season next year to keep his job is to keep Wally on the staff or name himself DC.

I would love it if Paul could succeed here, in any way, shape or form, because I love the guy. But I just don't think there's any chance that he somehow ends up our DC.

I was saying he should be the head coach and the defensive coordinator.

I second the motion. CPR could be our heavy metal HC/DC!
And maybe Mangino could become Asst HC/OC in case Pollard needs to fend off a lateral move on his part. Maybe Wally could stick around and focus on recruiting and coaching LBs.

And Unicorns could shoot out of my azz. Every Burnham on this staff needs to go.

Agree. You expect your head coach to be strong on one side of the ball or the other. I don't know if CPR has been hands off and let Wally have complete control or not, but now is not the time to worry about stepping on anybody's toes. CPR came up thru the ranks on defense and I would expect that to show up in our defense. He doesn't need the official title of d-coordinator but now is the time for CPR to get very hands on with the D if he hasn't been in the past.

Let's be honest here. The defensive players in front seven are almost out of bodies that can take snaps.

He has been opey hands-off with Wallys D and now with Manginos O. Maybe time for him to break down the meeting room door on D.
