Again, if that's the worst thing to happen to him today, he should consider himself lucky. If you think this is terrible, I'd hate to see your reaction to something that is actually a tragedy.

So it is okay because it could be worse? No sense of right or wrong, just a moral sliding scale. Got it. Thanks for clarifying. Silly me.

Sorry, this whole thread is stupid. These kids are lucky enough to grow up in the wealthiest nation IN THE WORLD. Have parents with enough money to be taken to these games. I know kids who have been raped, mutilated, abused, dirt poor, think of it and it happens. IF YOU ALL CANNOT SEE THAT BEING SHOWN ON TV CRYING IS NOT A BIG DEAL. (not matter how many times) Then there is nothing left to say because you all can say that you "get it" all you want, but YOU DON'T SEE THE BIG PICTURE. period.

That kid being shown crying on TV will be forgotten in less than 24 hours. I bet a lot of them either don't know they are being mocked or don't care. CHILDREN FORGET REALLY FAST. Most of them will laugh about it later if they even know about it AT ALL. Kids getting murdered across the world will get ZERO press cover and I'm sure they would trade ANYTHING to be shown crying on TV compared to the crappy lives they have...this is just asinine at this point by all the "get crying kids off tv" crowd. I'm done.

I think the point is more that this is being mean to those kids and that is wrong. I completely agree that this is really not that big of a deal compared to a lot of things, but it is still mean. If you start comparing all wrongs to one another that would mean that an athletes career ending because of a tragic injury is no big deal and we shouldn't feel sorry for them because there are people dying in other parts of the world.

Either way this thread is pretty pointless.

I may go pretty far to the side on this argument, but you're right. You get it.

He gets it and has a sense of right and wrong, it's just that your sense of what's "wrong" is an overreaction and missing the big picture. Too many people are acting like this is such an atrocity to have to view a crying child because his favorite basketball team lost a game and got shown on national TV. No it's not "right" to have it happen, but it's also not worth getting up in arms about. He gets that you guys all need to take a step back and ask if this is really THAT awful to the kid. I guarantee you care more about it than any child does...Just ask them (kids that have to suffer atrocities and will NEVER get to experience what those kids get to thrown completely aside)

If the worst thing you see on the internet/TV today is a kid crying about a GAME, consider yourself lucky. Otherwise, I pity you when you step out into the real world.

I'll wager I've probably been out in the real world a whole helluva lot longer than you have, and I think my reading comprehension is clearly better than yours.

No, that's not the worst thing I've seen on TV, today or any other day. But the day that I accept adults (the network) repeatedly pointing out ONE child (out of thousands of fans) visibly upset and think that's okay because there's so much worse that could happen to the child is the day I hang up my humanity card and step into my grave.

Almost hate bumping this thread, but after reading through it, I felt a little compelled.

I never saw the actual coverage until this morning. All I could think was, "Why the hell is this being shown now?" I think that is most people's anger at the event. It doesn't deserve coverage, especially when there are so many ***holes that will regurgitate it over and over.

Kids cry. It happens. If that was your kid, you'd be ****** off at the extended coverage. If you get mad at your kid for crying, then you're an *******. And please stop comparing this to some other tragedy in life. OF COURSE it's not the worst thing that will happen to a kid. Compare about ANYTHING to kids starving in another country and it pales in comparison.

The "wussification of America" argument just doesn't apply here either. Most posts I saw were appalled at the "repeated" showings and close-ups of the kid....that's it. Somehow it got turned into an argument about why a kid would cry in the first place. I guess it would be better if you found out that the parent of this child, embarrassed by the situation, went home and beat the kid for crying?

I guess I'm just curious to know if some of the defenders of the network have kids themselves. If yes and that kid was yours, would you say the same thing? How about if the kid had a mental disability ? Still ok?

Doesn't mean we're horrible people, we just can't let KU off the hook when they profess to enjoy watching kids cry on national TV, then suddenly have a 180 degree change of heart.

I agree that as a fan base that made fun of Hoiberg's kid last year, KU is most deserving of the coverage. Unfortunately, it's not them that are getting the coverage. It's the kid. That's my issue. I may be wrong, but I doubt that the same people that were making fun of Hoiberg's kid last year are the same people upset about a KU kid being in the spotlight.

I don't think it was Jack, it was one of the twins.

Crying kids is not entertainment and I wish they would stop broadcasting it.

It makes for good tv...but I do think it does help demonstrate the emotion behind it all. Many of the crying people are directly linked to the team.

As for coaches, I think it's fine to show tears/emotion. Think of the THOUSANDS of hours that went into this year (recruiting, coaching, film) and the relationships they have made.

I find it pretty classless for networks to prey on the vulnerabilities of children.

...I don't even like when they close up of the players in their last moments as a college basketball player.
I get that it adds to the drama, but I'm just not a fan.

This. There is plenty of drama and emotion that can be captured on tv without seeking out kids in the crowd that are crying. Keep the focus on the players and coaches on the court.
