don't make the same mistake with Tiller as with Bates

We managed to redshirt Tiller so we're already one step ahead with him.

It sounded to me like Bates (a) really wants a shot at QB, (b) didn't think he could beat out AA and (c) is willing to go to a MAC school to be a QB. If that's truly the case, I don't know that there is much more ISU could have done to keep him other than give him a redshirt his freshman season. He probably let his emotions get the best of him when he quit in the middle of the season. Still I hope Bates is successful whereever he goes as he seems like a pretty good guy.

All the youth playing, RJ had a great season, the offense came around as the season progressed. Defense needs a serious overhall, any thoughts about maybe LJ being a safety? He has the ability I think.
