Chris closed the last thread before, I got any answers.

People with the slow load times, what type of internet connection do you have? At work I have hi speed, so I see very few issues. At home however, I live in the boonies and have dial up. For the past several months, it is almost worthless to attempt to get on this site. I assumed it was all the scrolling ads or net zero. I am too cheap to pay much more then dial up prices, when I can get on at work everyday for an hour at lunch. Any suggestions on cheap internet. I don't have a networked cell phone either. Anyone else been having troubles for months? When the site 1st started pre-Chris/ads, I could go and read the forums at home with the normal dial-up delay. Not a slam, I know the site can't run for free, just wanting comments/suggestions. Are dial ups users screwed?

I haven't tried at home since these ads started, I can't imagine that I should even try.

Chris said in the thread to send him a PM if you have any questions. I recommend you do that

5-6 miles in the country (out of city limits) and DSL is no go in many places in Iowa.
Oh alright, I assume you can still get a high speed cable connection out there right? (edit: nevermind, I guess you're still out in BFE. So the only way to get high speed access would be through satellite, correct?) I don't think I could ever sit through a dial up connection again. I remember when we had it a long time ago and the sound of the modem dialing up was one of the most annoying things.
Luckily, the OP at least has his high speed work internet.

:jimlad:

I hope he was implied, right?

To brycy:

My mom still has dial-up. During Christmas I downloaded Google Chrome (replace Internet Explorer) and yes, it took a long while. However, that made a huge improvement in CF load time. If you added the Adblock extension that would also help. You could load CF at home. Yes, waiting would be involved but you essentially have to do that with any website on dial-up.

Yep. Satellite is the only route for "high speed" in some portions of the state. However, the service quality provided is questionable.

Heck, 6 miles of RG-6 cable on Monoprice.com only runs ~$5,000 wonder how much that would cost to install :biglaugh:

If I had to go back to dial-up, I'd probably go mad.

Why not change to the CF mobile edition? I would think that would take a lot less time to load, wouldn't it?

This is a really good idea. Scroll to the bottom of the page and change the drop down "Default Style" to "Mobile 3.0":

You will lose some of the functions of the normal site but will gain quick browsing.

Where they love the governor
Building on the Mobile theme idea, if you have an Android phone, you could root it and use z4root to enable wireless tethering, therfore netting yourself some higher speed internet!

The site is really slow for me at work..nothing I can do either. At home it's a little slow but not that bad. I wish there was something I can do because it's making me not want to stay on as much. And I LOVE me some CF during the workday.
