I'd also say that Mabe's Pizza is incredibly overrated. It's good, but it's not THAT good. My girlfriend is from New Hampton and always blathers on about how good Mabe's Pizza is.

Pizza Palace in Fredericksburg is pretty damn good though.

Something about people from NE Iowa defending Mabe's to the death seems weird to me.

I'm a big fan of pan and Chicago style pizzas though so Mabe's isn't up my alley.

Sioux Rapids on highway 71 on the way to Spencer or Storm Lake,
Max and Ermas has the very best nachos ever. Homemade thick nachos and the rest of the toppings are great. Other stuff is really good also

It pains me to praise Sac City, but the Sac County Cattle Company in Sac City has excellent food. The mushroom and swiss burger was voted the best burger in Iowa by the Iowa Cattleman's Association. I tried the burger and it was great, but I have no idea why anyone would order it because the steak and pork chops are amazing. The pork chops are more like pork roasts, but great.

Former cattleman 'steaks' reputation on Iowa's best burger

I'll also nominate the St Olaf Tap for the world's largest tenderloin. It's possible the smallest town on the list and a great tenderloin. I'd say if you are ever in St Olaf you have to try the tenderloin, but if you are in St Olaf you either live there or are already there to eat the tenderloin. 16oz of pork goodness.

As mentioned before the Teluwat is rock solid. Eat there whenever we are visiting the folks.

Tojo's in Jamaica has a great tenderloin.

If you are looking for something different the El Salvadoran food at El Buen Gusto in Perry is very good.

I've wanted to go there for a long while now, but I never get up that way. My buddy vinny's parents own the place and he claims that the 'vinny burger' is second to none. He said the same about the bloody marys.

Your buddy's uncle (I think it's his uncle) is a good friend of my old man's, so that might be part of the connection.

I really do like that place though. A buddy of mine from Osage got married around the corner from there last fall, and the whole wedding party was up there about 11AM (wedding was at 2) pounding bloody marys and watching football.
