I'm in the same boat, kids are staying home with the wife. Wife says she is comfortable with me driving myself, I think she is comfortable with my life insurance policy!
Hmm, better check the brake lines and tighten the lug nuts...

Drop the mic, call it a day.Just told a Hawkeye coworker (and UI bball season ticket holder) we're going to Ames for the game and he said that's dumb it's supposed to snow. I asked why he wasn't going to Iowa City and he said it's not worth it. I said "but you can get free pizza" and he said, and I quote...word for word... "People in Ames don't have anything better to do that;s why they don't need incentives." I said "playing good basketball is the only incentive we need."
This distance isn't an issue, it's driving with my kid. I'll play it by ear but if it's nasty out I'll probably pass just to not risk anything with my kid in the car. I heard 5 inches by evening commute, that could be pretty bad depending on circumstances.
I got no problem putting myself in a potentially crappy situation to go to a game, but that changes when you throw a little kid into the mix.
It's just snow people, chances at a big 12 title don't come around often.
So are we. If I see a Linn County license plate in the ditch we may stop and help...if there's time.![]()
A lot of tickets are popping up on ISU's Ticket Exchange site. Cheapest ones right now are $27.50 and there are quite a few of them.

The only reason I drove to Ames this morning and came to work was so I could make it to the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if not for the gam I would have worked from home.

We're going to play it by ear and see what the roads are like before we make a decision. Only going from DSM to Ames but that's going right through the swath of 6-8" they are predicting. Hate to miss a big game like this but it's also not worth getting into an accident over. We usually go up through Polk City and Kelly since we live in the NW part of the metro so the county roads could be sketchy
To each his own but I can't imagine living within 45 minutes of Ames and deciding not to come because of this snow (now freezing rain/ice would be a different story). All it takes is leaving plenty early so you can drive about 40 mph if needed and you'll be fine.
To be fair, they do have killer moped races in Iowa City that distract from athletics. This is becoming the excuse du jour for apathetic fanbases everywhere. Comical.
