I spent about 3 hours this afternoon sitting next to Ray's brother on a flight today from KC to Los Angeles. I believe it was Doug and Ashley but I'm not 100% sure on the names. Anyhow, I'd thought I'd share some interesting things during our discussion.
First off these were fantastic people and extremely complimentary of the ISU fanbase. We've got nothing to worry about with Ray. In fact, Ray couldn't even recommend some good restaurants in Ames because all he ever does is study and play football. He just works! Well that's not entirely true because he loves to eat too, but he doesn't have time to eat out. He had to drop a bit of weight when he got here.
Secondly, they told me ISU was the 1st to offer Ray out of Junior College and that's why we earned the visit. He always said he would visit his first offer. He could have played a lot of places including TCU who came on very hard at the end, but Ray would always blaze his own path. Some schools very negatively recruited on ISU, even saying it would be idiotic to come play for ISU.
You might remember the "hands to the face" penalty he had in the TCU game. That's the play his back froze up and he was about to get pancaked so that's why he got the hands high. I don't believe he came in after that play. Ray's brother said he should be good for next week, but he and Kempt were getting your standard treatment for bumps, bruises, sore muscles afterwards.
They couldn't stop talking about Kyle Kempt and how good he is. This is speculation on my part, but it almost seemed like Kempt is a cult like figure now within the team. That's so cool. I probed for some info on Park, but they either don't know anything beyond what we know or didn't want to share.
They said Lima was a high school teammate of Mat Boesen the talented DE at TCU. I think they said he tried to get Boesen to come to ISU. Also said Lima was a DE in highschool but played in a 3 defensive lineman system.
