Split Referral Bonus?

You reach out to your friend who you know is getting ready to look for a new job. You tell him that while you don't have any specific positions open, you can put his resume in which would guarantee him a phone interview regardless. Phone interview goes well as does second interview with hiring manager.

Do you split the referral bonus if they get hired?

I've only ever gotten one referral bonus in a different situation, did not split, but did take the person out for lunch. Curious to know thoughts and normal etiquette.

I was actually in this exact situation recently. I decided to give the person 20% which I felt was fair for a $3,000 bonus. Ultimately it's up to you and probably depends on your relationship with the person.
