This has to be some kind of joke. Just an absolutely stupid issue to discuss… We have way more things at ISU to worry about than “the speakers are too loud”…

My God.

It's more that it sounds awful than being too loud. The intro music sounds like a staticky radio station.

You could install a decibel meter on your smartphone and record different sound levels at the next home game. Gives the staff something to work with beyond a vague statement.

The problem is that it’s loud for you but quiet for others. It’d be nice if they could figure out sound distribution through the stadium in a future upgrade.
I don’t see how anybody can possibly think our PA is not loud. Years of farm work as a kid, spent a few years in loud workplaces and have attended a good number of blaring concerts, so my hearing is not good. And the PA is way too damn loud. It’s just absolutely grating. Some songs it isn’t as bad as others, but the sound on the intro reminds of when I would crank up my music in old junked out factory car speakers in my 83 Mustang. We were in section R. In years past always sat lower bowl on the west, and it never seemed nearly this loud or annoying, so maybe it’s a function of being in that section this year.

i sit in the upper deck at the 45 (section V). The sound system is INCREDIBLY loud. Everyone around me comments about it. i even see children putting fingers in their ears. I’ve worked in sound for a long time and this is ridiculous.

Only going off of two years ago but it was so loud it drowned out the actual crowd and imo really took away some of the atmosphere at least in the stands.

Just really obnoxiously loud like they're over compensating.

It is loud, but JFC people, it's a football game, not an opera. Only complaint is herding everyone on the west side and some on the east side into a funnel going north. They need a walk and stairs like at Hilton for people to exit the upper deck.

In an outdoor stadium? I've never seen that. I've seen it in indoor stadiums where you can hang speakers from the ceiling in the center, but how do you isolate your different audio zones in an outdoor setting when all the speakers have to be pointing towards the center of the field?

It varies at each stadium, i just know it exists.

You hit the nail on the head when comparing lower bowl to upper bowl in the second half of your post. I recommend editing, “I don’t see how anybody can possibly think our PA is not loud.”

It's a football game it's supposed to be loud.

I am actually happy to hear they had the sound system turned up because I thought at the Iowa game they had it turned way too low

Was in front row of south end zone and it was uncomfortably loud. I realize it’s a football game and enjoy a lot of crowd noise, but it’s terrible sound quality which makes it worse.

Don’t disagree there. But that’s not what the OP was referring to.

Uh..refer to where I also said it drowned itself out. I'm perfectly fine with this thread ending because its obvious that enough other people also found it to be extreme, regardless where they sat, plus a couple posters gave ideas as to who to contact to ask about it. NEVER did I say I would want it quiet, loud is good! Loud to the point where it keeps people from actually making out the message or songs w/quality or taking measures to muffle it is another thing.
Mods feel free to end. Should have known better to bring it up. Hundreds of posters can ridicule coaches and players on here, and its accepted as their right to do so, but how dare anyone bring up a stadium improvement. geesh
