Good gravy you are a bit too sensitive.

Personally i couldn’t converse with anyone in the pew behind me and had trouble hearing the choir. The pipe organ was WAY too loud.
Do people outside of Iowa use the term “good gravy”?

one of two thing, either complainers have the most sensitive hearing, or they're the type who by the cheap seats and complain..
Earplugs or upgrade.. It will make us all less annoyed. Thank you

I get it, stadiums should be loud. But there was a point late in the game when it went to another level and made it impossible to communicate with people next to me.

It is one thing to blast the sound along with the crowed noise, but this was different. When there is nothing to be pumped up about for a 2.5 minute TV timeout, don't crank it up just to crank it up. If the sound doesn't accompany fans wanting to get up and cheer, especially when there is nothing to cheer about, then don't.

Perhaps we were just trying to make KU fans feel at home. For all the praise KU basketball fans get, the sound in Phog Allen Arena is mostly generated by speakers, not fans. It would be painful even if no one there was cheering.

I was lower west side around the end zone. According to my Apple Watch, sound levels exceede 100 Dbs 14 times. In general, the peaks look comparable to the last few rock concerts I have been too. The FB game peaks looked about 5 Dbs lower but definitely lower levels on the non-peak moments.

This is correct. Song choice and placement is more important than volume when trying to keep a crowd engaged during a timeout. Interactive games and ads also have a role. Cranking it to 11 is not a solution.

Is there some reason people need to be engaged during a time-out? It is a time-out, after all. Someone above summed it up best - the atmosphere is completely hokey. Needs to be more organic. Some - but better - music, more band, less blown speakers, less promotional bull$hit. Feels like the XFL not college football sometimes.

With all the stadium upgrades, the new performance center, the plaza, etc. it really is a GREAT looking Jack Trice. Kudos to Pollard, and the many, many of us fans for continuing to financially support this program. And the progressive vision of the future. Love being there.

My question is, does anybody know if 'fan comments' are welcomed? And is an email to JP the only route to express those?
So many of those in our section last night, about 20 yd line in upper deck on northwest side, could hardly tolerate the extreme volume of the sound system. Not that any of us could barely converse without yelling, due to the loudness, but several of us did think the volume was louder than even the previous two home games. Yes, it was multiple people discussing this and we've sat that for many years.

And before the bashing begins, yes, we realize everything can't be perfect. Like I said, we love being there. Every venue/business/operation usually welcomes feedback. And we really don't know if it is heard differently in the lower section, let's say on the 50 yd line, or on the south end, etc. No, we are not elderly, nor wear hearing aids. We had friends there for their first game, and they couldn't believe how loud it was. There are such fun things put on the video board, including music, that it seems a shame that the extreme volume often took away from it. Or actually drowned out itself.
Anyone else have the same issue? Is it the same no matter where you sit? Trust me, we like things loud, too. But this seemed overly extreme last night. If it was toned down 'just a tad' , are other parts of the stadium effected?
I would hope that this simple fan question or comment doesn't have to be construed as being negative. Just wondering others' experience. By the way, I commend a few mothers I saw there with headphones on their baby or toddler's ears...smart.
Go Cyclones!

Yes, the music was loud. The bass especially was like a drill in my head. I am glad I wasn't the only one.

My only complaint about the sound is that the intro song (for the video before it gets to Power) just sounds like music coming out of bad speakers. I don't know if it's because of the volume or what, but it sounds awful - at least from where I sit.

This too. Not only was it loud but it didn't even sound good.

I sit in the low east side on the 30 and it sounds just fine. Previous years you could barely hear it. (when they decided to use the speakers under the upper deck on the concourse) since, they have disconnected them and must have power running back to the main stacks.

The type who buy cheap seats and complain? That’s what you’re going with? If you spend less money on a seat then thats a deciding factor on the relevance of your complaint? That’s seems like a mature and well thought out position. But surprising coming from someone who isn’t a premium member on this board. Because of your free membership status here I just don’t think your opinion counts.

I was making a generalization. Typically they are the most vocal and complain the most. I think your point would be mature and well thought out if I was complaining about this site, which I don't. Coming from a guy who is trying to be internet tough guy is pretty rich. Enjoy the by week.

So you were complaining about complainers. Got it. You win, makes total sense.

Because we shouldn't try and improve the experience, we should just kneel at the altar of Pollard and use this message board to trash Iowa. I've been going to games since the late 70's/early 80's. I remember the stupid car, the astro turf and the hot tub in the end zone. Atmosphere is 100% improved. That doesn't mean it can't be better. Right now it is almost like complete and total stimulation of the senses like the congressional scene in Idiocracy. My brain/ears can only process so many Kick Start My Heart beginnings. Who is in charge of the sound dept/music selection? Does anyone know? I assume it is either The Round Guy or some other former DJ at KGGO.

Normally sit row 30 in lower SE end line. Commented at the start of the game that it was louder than usual.

Had the rare opportunity to go into the Sukup Endzone Club. Walked outside just before the start of the second. It was ear piercingly loud. Like unbearable loud. Noticed the 'regulars' had ear plugs. Was so bad we opted to go back to our normal spots.

I don't consider myself an old fogie but damn... it could come down a couple notches.
