On the same day that Memphis officials met with the NCAA, Tigers junior forward Shawn Taggart decided his college career at the school is over.

Taggart told FOXSports.com that he will remain in the NBA Draft and sign with an agent.

"I think it's my time to go," Taggart said. "You never know what can happen during a season where I'm going to have to carry the load. We've done a lot at Memphis. I feel as though I'm opening a lot of eyes of people who didn't think I could do anything but dunk. Plus, I've got to provide for my family."

The 6-foot-10 Taggart, who spent one season at Iowa State before transferring to Memphis, averaged 10.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game last season.

I don't really blame him. Its not like he is going to improve his stock any this next year and he has already graduated. Might as well start making some money, even if it is overseas.

What an idiot... Enjoy Europe Shawn... if they even really want him there. 6'10" soft guys who can shoot are a dime a dozen in Europe.

How is he an idiot? Come back to a team that won't be as talented and has a 1st year coach or at worst get a 6 figure contract out in Europe. I would say he is doing the right thing. Another year at Memphis isn't going to make him any closer to being an NBA player. He could improve more in Europe playing better competition

He could become a 20/10 star player like CB is if he stayed in Memphis this year. Wait, that would be a huge increase from 10/7 last year. He could go to grad school. Acutally make $300k in Israel is better.

Look the guy wants to provide for his family, get off his back. If he has the ability to go to Europe to provide for them, I am happy for him. Its too bad that we couldn't keep him and try to make him into a good player.

He would have had more playing time here with better stts. I think he has some growing to do still. He does not go all out at times. He has potential.

I dont think that taggart will be drafted, but i do think he has a slight chance to be picked up in free agency though. In the end he'll go to europe, but he might as well try. He has learned to not foul out as much since his iowa state days though i'll give him that.

I agree. And if he's already graduated, maybe he really feels it's time to move on.

Didnt he think he was a one and done player when he showed up in Ames. Its about time he entered the draft.

lol.. that is what everyone says "I have to support my family." but I am skeptical about how many athletes actually decide based on that.

Best of luck shawn at becoming a no namer. I wonder once he gets to europe if he'll get in trouble with the law his first year like memphis..He won't ever sniff a starting spot in the nba... scum player, playing for a scum team, while playing under a scum coach. Definition of a selfish player.
