I take it from the cyclones.tv preview that the Frogs' base D is the 4-2-5. Any insights on their personnel out of the base? I'm somewhat surprised to see where they rank in rush D after hearing that this is their base D (although they haven't really been tested).

Instinctively, I would think that this would be even more incentive (beyond our offensive failures last week) to go to more straight hand-offs to our backs and try to establish a run game through a more traditional attack, but the stats have me perplexed.

I don't think that strategy really hurt them too much otherwise they wouldn't be able to run the 4-2-5. I know they've been in that at least since Patterson has been there and it's seemed to work out pretty well.

against the spread, isu basically runs a 4-2-5 defense as our base as well

A 4-2-5 isn't hardly ever (or is rarely, I should say) a traditional Nickel. It's usually more like what we run, with a pseudo-safety/LB holding down that 11th spot other than the 4 linemen, 2 linebackers, and 4 members of the secondary. This allows the defense more freedom in scheming, as they can act like a traditional 4-3 or a traditional Nickel at pretty much any time, if they want to.
