Texas Tech has one of the top passing offenses in the nation with close to 350 yards per game, throwing about 75% of the time. Tech primarily throws short passes. Iowa State has one of the lowest ranked pass defenses in the nation. Before the Oklahoma game, opponents were completing about 75% of their attempts. On top of this, ISU lost its best conerback for the year in the Oklahoma game. ISU plays a passive pass defense with corners dropping off the line of scrimage and giving a large cushion to the receiver. With losing our top corner, Skladany will probably be even more passive in his calls to protect his new db's from getting beat deep. If we play the way we have played the first seven games, ISU's defense will not shut down Tech's passing game. Very bad weather and Tech itself are the primary ones who will cause Tech to have a bad offensive game. Hope for a rainy, cold, and very windy day. I like all ISU fans would like to see ISU win this game, but I have stopped believing that the play calling and defensive schemes will change from what they have been for the past few games.

I can't think of many instances this year when our secondary has been tested deep. Tech likes to throw short and that's all they'll have to do, because we've seen this exact defense give up gobbs of yards on short passes. Sure, I can understand not wanting to get beat deep with an undersized and inexperienced secondary, but even on, say, third-and-3 plays, our corners are 10 yards off the line of scrimmage! It gift wrapped for the offense.

I am hoping that the Defense comes out and plays aggressive from the start of the game. It seems to me that the DBs have been playing a little closer since the NU game. 3rd downs have been real killers for the Cyclones. This would be a great week to turn that around.
The biggest difference between this year and last year in my opinion is the turnovers. We were a little soft with the pass D last year too. With the clock changes and far fewer turnovers we get a lot less momentum and fewer scoring opportunities. In 2004 the D scored about half our touchdowns in the first 4 or 5 games. I remember whining and moaning about how we hadn't scored an offensive touchdown in 3 games or something rediculous. Thats not happening this year.
Thats certainly not an excuse for the offense but maybe an explaination.
Hopefully the offense can get in a groove and CREATE some momentum instead just feeding off the defense.

You are totally correct. 50 points in defensive turnovers last year.
Yet the defense this year does not play the turnover game well. They would need to bust through with some big hits, step in front of receivers, sack the qb from behind. That is not our identity this year. Offense needs to do 60-80 yard drives. Are they capable? I think we know. If the left side of the oline could hold up under half the blitzes, we could put points on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.
