Being an Iowa State fan and protesting it means absolutely 0 to the grand scheme of things. Everyone else's reaction is "Ok cool, one less team to worry about"

It’s already been decided. That’s what I’m trying to say. Look at the way this is going. We might hang in this “third conference” thing for a bit but the networks and the P2 are going to squash that as soon as they feel like it.

There’s legally a P5. and there will be until a conference or 2 dissolves. And if two do, there’s still a P3. It would take years in court to change that, and if they wanted to break away from thier schools to form a minor league it would likely take years in court still and they would lose all the money they have now. We already have the AFL, CFL, formally NFL Europe that no one cares about. P2 is just a media term. Any surviving P5 conference isn’t getting left out. Sure if it becomes a P3, we are still making more money than we ever have before. We’ll get by until schools are aloud to pay for players off of that money. Even by then, the gap could be closed as powerhouses change.

That just means you’re poor or live paycheck to paycheck. Which is fine and sadly relatively normal, but personally I wouldn’t brag about it. Id probably find a second job and not post as much if I were in that situation.

Who would have thought that giving away your money is the key to being rich? How was I to know as a poor?

When you say worry about do you mean being competitive or winning a championship? Because only about a dozen teams have a real chance of winning a championship and this just solidifies that.
Competing. With a 4 team playoff being run by ESPN none of the R8 have an actual shot at winning a title anyhow

Thats valid, I think we still compete because the top 16ish will poach any decent player from the next 100ish teams. So the distance between the top and the middle stretches but the middle competes with each other.

ESPN has the playoffs until 2025, and as of now any P5 and as Cincinnati proved last year G5 has a seat at the table. Going forward I’d be shocked if the B1G let ESPN have full control, and same with SEC letting Fox have full control.

Who could be shocked at any thing anymore? The greed is beyond control. It's not just college football.

You have more faith in that than I do. I feel like Cincy was the test run and now ESPN can say "We gave them a chance and look what happened" and then never give the G5 a bone again

I'm cynical but not that cynical.

This is why I am not going to participate in the We Will Collective. Sometimes doing nothing is all that can be done. We can either do nothing or do the wrong thing. Easy choice for me.

We know. You’ve said it 1,000 times. I don’t know what you’re trying to prove here.

Oh the G5 is screwed. This past year was a perfect scenario for Cincy to make it but with how things are going I’d guess we will likely never see a G5 school make it.

Especially considering most of the “solid” G5 schools are now in conferences (BYU, Cincy, Houston). They’re not going to throw in an undefeated Coastal Carolina, it just won’t happen. They’d 100% choose a 10-2 Georgia or Florida over them.

Cincy last year already had a terrific season under their belt and then had a good non-conference run beating Notre Dame and with the help of other power houses losing a couple games, they got in.

I don’t think teams outside the power conferences will have a chance but I don’t think ESPN is going to run things when it’s all said and done. No different than the NFL not having one true media component. It’ll be multiple but first there’s gotta be some sort of system in place.

Fox, CBS, and NBC, along with the streaming companies are going to want a piece of this thing and we obviously saw that with the USC and UCLA deal.

You really think this is different? You are acting like this is different now and you have a unique perspective. It's in the open now.

Why did the university of Chicago quit the big ten after winning national championships?

Look at what was happening 100 years ago. The big 8 was an unlevel playing for its entire history. The big 12 was an unlevel playing field until a few years ago. Look at the old southwest conference and the SEC from the '40's to the 90's.

It's always been crooked.

We actually now have a better chance than ever now. The past it was zero to compete with the best. Our chances now are much greater than zero. Not great, but many times better than in the past.

You are giving up which is ok. But please don't act like you are stating a new perspective or how things have changed.

I didn't like the past. I don't like the recent changes. However, it not as bad as it used to be.

Doesn’t seem much different in that regard.

Technically, its still illegal for a booster of a university to be involved in recruiting an athlete to a particular school. That is technically still reserved for the coaches. So if a Texas booster is talking to recruits directly, that's still against NCAA rules. But we all know how weak the NCAA is with these kinds of things.
