Yeah, even if he was only there for one year with Shaka, he will have his name attached to more very good recruits and open up experience in new territories. All things that look good on a resume, with a big paycheck on top of that.

It would be pretty easy for him to get a new, and possibly better job after that. It's not like they will blame all of Texas' problems on the guy that just got hired and still brought in good recruits.

GOOD coaches will never have to look for work. GOOD recruiters can name their own price.

Isaac Chew from Texas A&M has to be a target. There was a lot of hype around him after Prohm's first season to replace TJ. Chew is a longtime assistant under Kennedy, both he and Prohm were Kennedy assistants at Murray State, so it may be hard to pull him away from A&M. It looks like A&M just lost an assistant coach (another one with Murray State ties) to join Tom Crean at Georgia, so it's unlikely that Kennedy can afford to lose him at this time. A&M currently has the #9 ranked recruiting class for 2019 (according to 247).

That is a great call. Really wanted Chew to come to ISU when Prohm was putting together his first coaching staff. That said, he chose Kennedy and TA&M originally, not sure if is looking to move to Ames. Doesn't hurt for Prohm to reach out and see if there is interest though.

Looks like Chew currently makes at least $350K at A&M (as of 2016) so he would need to take a pay cut to come to Ames. This article by Stansbury says Berry was making $220K as of last June.

I am not sure where Pollards budget is with Asst. Coaching budgets, but we shouldn't assume the replacement if Berry leaves will only get $220K. In fact, if it is someone brought in form outside the staff then I would assume it would be for a higher salary.
Berry was brought in as an unproven coach and worked his way up to that s $220. Chew is a lot more seasoned and accomplished as a recruiter thus deserving of his current salary or bump up.
I would guess Pollard is willing (or more able with the B12 deal now) to pay for quality assistants and if Prohm wants Chew or someone else making ~300K+ I think the Athletic Department can make it work.

TJ made $275K his last season at ISU, so a comparable assistant-level coach would warrant +$300K salary in today's market. The snag I could see is that is a higher salary than Small and Robinson are currently making ($265K each). I think assistant contracts get reworked in the Summer so both coaches are probably in-line for a raise - and maybe Berry is looking at a significant raise as well to stay in Ames. Maybe we'll see those assistant coach contracts be announced sooner rather than later to keep Berry in Ames.

For people saying Kyle Green, is he actually a P5 level assistant or are you just saying that because you want his son?

I heard it's very unlikely to happen FWIW, I think he is very happy at UNI. With that being said he has a P5 resume IMO. Got promoted to Associate Head Coach recently, had a stint at Marquette and a couple HC stops

Fred could be out of a job after this year, I say we bank the open assistant coach spot and wait for Fred to come home.

Fred was my childhood hero. I'd take him any day of the week over the next 50 years.
