Firstdown...saw a t-shirt of this somewhere. Anyway, this is a message board and I'm going to complain, as there's nothing to complain about right now......I absolutley hate it when the announcer says that. When I saw that shirt, it honestly annoyed me. Anyone else feel this way?

That's almost worse than the video board showing players shaking key's for a key play....man just reminds me of a highschool game, or an NAIA game.

I don't really mind it. IMO, it helps keep the crowd to make noise.

I always feel that they should say "that's a Cyclone firstdown" for the 1st one of the game, then "that's another...." from there on out. Just my thoughts.

I like it. As has already been said, the crowd really gets into it I think.

I brought my buddy to the Texas game a couple years ago and he had a great time in Ames but the only thing he took away from Cyclone football was "Boy they sure do like their first downs!"

It almost feels like when they hold up the applause sign on the Tonight Show so they know when to cheer.

I should have clarified. I don't mind him saying it, although would prefer if had just say Cyclone First down, buuut I just wish he wouldn't scream it over the speakers, especially at meaningless point in the football game.

I don't like it. But maybe that has something to do with our teams being terrible since we started doing that.

I agree with cmoore - it gets the fans excited and has started be a tradition that can be unique to ISU games. And after the 15th or 16th first down, it really starts to pi$$ off the fans of the other team that happen to be in attendance! (I am a season tix holder that is lucky enough to sit in a section where the opposing teams fans buy single game tickets)

Yeah, it is terrible. If I wanted to go to a high school game I would. Also, when he asks the crowd to cheer on defense. You know that piped in crowd environment stuff is really, really embarrassing.

Would like to hear, "That's another Cyclone Touchdown" more, but hey I'll take this cheer.

Agreed. Anything to keep the crowd noisy. What exactly is the argument against it?

The crowd can't be noisy on it's own? The crowd isn't intellectual enough to know when it is a good time to cheer? Cheering for a 1st down? Embarrassing.

I think it's humorous that fans in one thread will ***** about how fans never seem to get into the game and/or the university does things that prevent the fans from getting into the game, and then in another thread we ***** about how we're getting annoyed by one of the few things that actually does get the fans into the game.

Well, which is it?

I guess I just don't understand the "it's high school or lower class football" arguement. In my mind, it's crowd participation and that's never a bad thing.
