I think that all things considered, BYU would join the Big 12 over the Pac. The Pac spurned them a year ago, and they seem upset. They could have more money in the Big 12, and get their Texas foothold.

So why not use skype? Its not like the call would be recorded.

Would phone calls be recorded? FOIA may require subject and notes from a conversation, so if you skype a meeting and someone requests info about it, you may need to have records. If face-to-face meetings don't fall under FOIA, you could say that the meeting was exempt and that's the end of it.

I have a really hard time believing that Air Force & New Mexico give the market penetration necessary to justify expanding to 12 schools.

No way those two schools capture enough viewers to not lose ISU money by expanding to 12.

Lose isn't the term I would use. The new FOX deal was going to net ISU $20 million more per year. Even if the addition of two universities like Air Force & New Mexico causes that $20 million to decrease to $10, that's still $10 million more than ISU saw with Nebraska, Colorado, and A&M. Throw the new ESPN deal on top of that and ISU is still sitting pretty.

The school that would be negatively impacted the most by an Air Force/New Mexico addition would probably be Oklahoma, possibly OK State. Oklahoma is now at the mercy of FOX to see what will happen to that TV deal as Texas can fall back on their $15 million per year from the LHN.

Good catch on "losing money" vs. "not getting as much more money". If I budget to increase my budget by 50%, and then remove half of that, I'm not saving money...I'm still spending more (just not as much).

I think you need to check your math. A billion dollars divided by 10 schools divided by 13 years is only about $7.6 million per school annually and I think after some other expenses JP estimated ISU would only actually pocket $4-5 million per year.

As i recall the new deal put conference members up near 20mil\year total, but not 20mil new.

$20 million was the number that I remember from last year - is that all TV combined?

Either way, ISU can't lose any more money with the addition of new universities - the worst case scenario would be to go back to where we started from.

$20 million was what was supposed to be guaranteed only to OU/Tx/A&M during the first crisis to ward off Pac-10.

Something to remember, if we did bring in a new team that wasnt at quite as high a level, nothing says their revenue has to be equal off the bat. Even nebraska didnt get equal b10 money right away iirc.

While it would obviously be demanded from say a school like BYU or any current BCS member, for lower conference members that would benefit a lot more from joining our league than we would from adding them, revenue concessions from them could be a part of the agreement. Even with revenue concessions they could likely be making more than they were wherever they were before, if it were MWC or CUSA.

There is a lot of chatter on a SEC board that Missouri is the most likely team to follow aTm to the SEC. FWIW.

If you are talking Fox/ESPN combined that gets you closer to the $20 million. Assuming (hoping) the league stays together and gets a quality replacement for aTm then we could still be looking at a nice payday in 2016.
